a variety of singles from low end to high end. All sports. I hate going into a shop and they've got mid 90's inserts and washed up game used and autos. A good variety of singles is a great thing.

Kids. Kids with their dads, kids with their older brothers (and sisters?)...and more female collectors.

Dollar boxes with $3-$12+ cards in it.

And different singles in stock every month.

I want to open a card store someday, hopefully soon :P
But what would you like to see in a card shop?
From products, supplies, to the store's appearance, to events happenings in a shop.
What are your reasons to go to a card shop...

Thanks

I think it would be cool to have a day once a week or every month were everything in the store is like 10-15% off I feel like that would really draw a croud. Also I think a punch card would be cool have a punch card with $10 amounts all around it and so around
$200 total and when they fill it up they get something or a precentage off there next purchase or $10 off. Just my 2cents that I think would draw people.

you guys still go to your local card shops?

seriously though, for the ones i used to visit (none in my area now), i wish they would have been priced more competitively on their singles. I don't spend hours in a shop so I don't need the lounges, sofas, televisions or food that some of you guys would like to see. A good selection of packs new and old is always nice when I want to gamble.

But you can't really beat bidding on HTF cards with no reserve auctions, amirite?

ebay is now my LCS of choice based mostly on variety and in most cases price.

-Supplies and lots of 'em. I live in buffalo and we have around 10 LCS's, 2 Dave and Adams Card Shops and 2 huge fleas markets yet it is impossible to find graded card bags. The most popular/successful shops seem to have the best selection of supplies(ultra pro only of course). Dave and Adams is by far the most popular even though they carry almost no singles(except local players) and their wax prices are sky high but since they have a good selection of supplies at great prices it is always busy. They basically give away supplies to lure people in.

-Tons of wax. Another thing they do that is awesome is that they have lists of all the possible hits and potential rookie cards for every box they have. They put the hit sheets right on the shelves with the boxs and that gets them a ton of impulse sales. Also they have every possible product available for sale in either packs or boxes.

-Player signings are also a huge draw for DAndA's and they have a big assortment of auto'd memorabilia.

-I also would love to see high grade as well as mid grade vintage and tons of it. Some current prospect stuff would be nice too. None of the LCS's in my area have prospects.

-Being able to submit cards to psa/dna and bgs would be great. Just being able to drop off cards and pick tthem up would be f'in sweet.

-I would like to be able to view the LCS's inventory in an ebay store so I could browse from home and then go check out the cards in person.

-Last of all I hate seeing magic cards and the poke mon type crap but I've noticed that the most popular LCS's around carry that stuff and host games. I can't stand it but it does make a ton of $ for the owners.

Oh and a fully stocked bar.

Where in Florida? I am in Melbourne. Only one place in town now. You need what most people said, lots of different products, good selection of singles, but most important I think is you want it a place people will want to hang out in. The place I went to all the time in NY had trade night, pack wars & 2 cases where customers were able to sell THEIR cards....pretty cool. That guy had a great following, because it was like a bar for card collectors. Also, maybe try to start a monthly or bi-monthly show - none of them down here either. Gotta go down to almost Miami for an only fair show.

I live in Viera and I know the shop you're talking about..
I would want to open the store in Suntree/Viera..
I know the strip mall I want to get in already,
Its between a martini bar & a cigar shop..

Love drop zone boards. Where each week you lower prices on cards $5, just never know who else may be eyeing cards are when to make a move. Keeps people coming in every week to check it.
This is a good idea. This is something I will do.

Keep the ideas coming, This is great!

A few things I've done or try to do:

-Rotate singles in your showcases as much as possible. No one likes looking at the same cards every time they come in.

-Orginization. One of my tables has boxes orginized like this:
$2 box (BV generally 6-15)
$1 box (BV 3-6..a few nicer cards "sneak" in there from time to time)
$.50 box (base and inserts of stars and semi stars)
A seasonal box...right now it's 2010 NFL rc's with cards priced as marked

Another table:
Cheifs/Royals box
KU/K-State box (I'm in Topeka, KS)
Superstars of Sports box- mega stars (Jeter, Favre, Lebron, etc) orginized by player and priced as marked

-New Wax. Well stocked new wax. And packs of course.

-Pack Wars. Last Thursday of every month. It normally gets 7-10 guys in the shop on a Thursday night spending money.

-Monthly giveaway. I just started this month. Every $20 a customer spends gets a name in the drawing the prize is a pack of every product that came out during that month. My first drawing is tonight.

-Magic The Gathering. Hands down one of my biggest sellers.

-Wi-fi. When I'm slow, I'm normally listing on Ebay and Sportlots.

-CUSTOMER SERVICE. Just be a nice guy. It definitely pays off.

And I love the idea for the Drop Zone. I may have to try that.

This made me think of posting pictures of the greatest hits or pulls *framed* on the walls around the lounge - make it classy not chinsy.

Keeping customers in the store for as long as possible is always a good business strategy.

I want to to some kind of giveaway, but I think in Florida, you can't make them buy to get in the drawing (kind of no purchase necessary thing) so the way I may do it is, everyone who comes in the store gets into the raffle and then if they but something, then I they get more chances.
-Magic The Gathering. Hands down one of my biggest sellers.

-Wi-fi. When I'm slow, I'm normally listing on Ebay and Sportlots.

I always had a great personality when I go to shows

And I love the idea for the Drop Zone. I may have to try that.

Thats what I want to do, make it "FUN" to come to my shop..

A lot of ideas, I already was thinking but glad to see thats what others would want!
Keep' em coming,

Thanks
