I have a few:

* 1986 World Series
* 2003 ALCS
* the two Super Bowls against the Giants

But one of the biggest (using the "I was there" thinking) was the 1998 NCAA Regional Final in St. Louis. I was on press row doing the play-by-play on the radio when the University of Rhode Island blew a lead in the final 58 seconds to lose to Stanford with a trip to the Final Four on the line. One of the toughest losses for me.

1. March 30, 1987. Keith effing Smart. I was only 4 and a half, but it still was awful. Luckily 2003 eventually happened.

2. May 12, 2000. Seeing Adam Petty's fatal practice crash at New Hampshire. There were MAYBE 100 people in the grandstand at the time. I almost didn't want to come back the next day for the race. It's a shame that Kenny Irwin, Tony Roper, and Dale Earnhardt also had to die over the next 8 months before NASCAR finally started requiring the HANS device.

Sid Bream lumbering around third to slide in ahead of Mike LaValliere's tag. Andy Van Slyke sitting in centerfield, head down between his knees.

Little did I know that I wouldn't see another winning season for (at least) the next 20 years.

Probably Hugh Freeze leaving my beloved Arkansas State RedWolves for Ole Miss after having the greatest season since I've been alive....then having to listen to scuttlebut about replacements ranging from Jim Grobe to Joe Generic Coordinator. Though the pain was short lived when we announced we were hiring Gus Malzahn as our new HC.

Also as a huge Titans fan...the 1999 Super Bowl where Kevin Dyson came up 1 yard short against the St. Louis Rams.

Me and a couple of friends had actually discussed stuff like this a while back on Facebook. I just went ahead and copied and pasted what I had typed up a few years back.

10. 2010 NIT Tulsa vs. Kent State. This was supposed to be Tulsa's year. Almost every single publication had TU winning C-USA. They had finally got OSU to play a home game in Tulsa, and they won. Memphis, who had been the dominant team in C-USA the last 4 years, went through a down season. After a fantastic 16-3 start, and winning their first 6 conference games, TU looked like the team to beat. Unfortunately, February came along with a brutal conference schedule, and sent TU reeling. A semifinal loss to UTEP in the C-USA tourney sent TU to the NIT and a 1st round away game versus Kent State, who won the MAC conference regular season title. The game was back and forth throughout, and Tulsa managed to get an 11 point lead midway into the 2nd half. Kent State came back, and took the lead with less than 20 seconds left in the game on a layup. Ben Uzoh had one final chance to get the W for TU but his baseline jumper fell short, and TU's season was over. This was a tough loss. I have spent the last 4 years watching Jerome Jordan and Ben Uzoh help bring TU back from the trainwreck that was the John Phillips era. I was really hoping they had one final run in them to another title.

9. December 28, 2004 TU-OU Basketball. Micah, I know you remember this game. I can't stand OU. In fact, I pretty much hate everything about them. Needless to say, I was pumped up for this game. Game was close early on, with TU making some timely outside shots. Towards the end of the half, TU started making mistakes, and OU capitalized with a barage of 3s. TU down double digits at the half. TU came storming back in the 2nd half, led by Jarius Glenn, and actually had the lead with about 3 min. left to play. It was not meant to be. The doucher Bookout had a couple of baskets in the last minute to make sure the comeback was thwarted. OU won 70-66. In all honesty, I could have picked any loss from this season, but this one stung the most.

8. Super Bowl XXV Bills vs. Giants. I honestly don't remember much from this game.....I was 5 at the time, but I do remember watching it on tv. This game is best remember for the missed field goal as time expired. Scott Norwood's kick went wide right, and the Bills lost 20-19. This would be the first of 4 consecutive Super Bowl losses.

7. Novermber 7, 2009 Tulsa vs. Houston Football. Horrible season this past year, and this game was easily the most brutal. Houston was ranked in the Top 20. TU was up 45-37 with about 3 min. left int he game. Houston drove down the field, and with less than 1 min. left scored a touchdown, but they had to go for 2. On the 2 Point try, Case Keenum was sacked and TU was about to win the game. Houston attempted an onside kick. The ball went through a TU player's hands and Houston recovered. They then kicked a game winning field goal as time expired. This was the first time I had experienced something like this live. The silence in the stands after the ball went through the posts was unreal. I still to this day, can't believe this happened.

6. January 8, 2000 AFC Wild Card Playoffs Bills vs. Titans. Otherwise known as the "Music City Miracle". I honestly don't remember being more pissed off after a football game ever. Wade Phillips is an idiot. He screwed over my team, and one of my top 3 players to ever play the game, Doug Flutie. Flutie started the first 15 games that season, and was benched in the regular season finale after they had clinched a playoff berth. Wade decided to go a different direction in the playoff game, and start Rob F'N Johnson, who was the most worthless QB I ever saw. To this day, I still think the backwards lateral on the kick return was really a forward lateral, and the play should have been called back. Every time I see Wade lose......it brings a smile to my face. What a piece of XXXX.

5. 2000 NCAA Tourney Elite 8 TU vs. UNC. Neither team was supposed to be there. Tulsa, a 7 seed, and UNC, and 8 seed. TU got a huge break when Cincinnatti, a 2 seed and 2nd round opponent, lost Kenyon Martin to a broken leg prior to their conference tourney. TU lost 59-55, ending a magical season. This one hurts because it is quite possibly the farthest TU will ever make it in the tournament.

4. 2003 NL Championship Series Cubs vs. Marlins Game 6. Steve Bartman incident. 6 outs away from the World Series, and possibly ending professional sports' longest streak in between championships, 95 years. Funny thing is, Bartman had nothing to do with why the Cubbies lost. Shortstop Alex Gonzalez's error on an inning ending double play kept the inning alive, and the wheels fell off from there. Game 7 was never really close, and the Cubs sank back into mediocrity, and sports most cursed franchise once again.

3. January 13, 2009 Tulsa vs. Memphis Basketball. 55-54 Memphis on a buzzer beater layup by Antonio Anderson. TU took its first lead of the game with 4.5 seconds left, which capped a furious comeback in the last 7 minutes, when they were down by double digits. I remember getting the lead, and everyone in our section was getting ready because we were storming the court. We were going to be the team that ended Memphis' long conference winning streak. And then, a few curse words later, we were leaving the arena. Unbelievable.

2. 2006 NCAA Tourney Gonzaga vs. UCLA Sweet Sixteen. My favorite college player of all-time's last game. I loved watching Adam Morrison play. Possibly the most emotional player I have ever seen on the court. People hated him. They hated his long hair, and ridiculous moustache. More times than not, that's all that anyone cared about. Up 16 in the second half, Gonzaga let it slip away. And after the UCLA took the lead in the last 10 seconds. Morrison started to cry on the court. He knew it was his last game, and he wasn't coming back for his senior year. Probably the closest I have come to crying after a game in which I didn't play in. I was away at school, and watched the game with my friends. Little did I know that later that evening, they were going to go to Wal-Mart and buy white shirts and screen printing supplies to make shirts with a picture of Morrison crying and the words "owned" underneath. They woke me up at 3 in the ******* morning to show me what they had done. Pissed me off, but later made for a good laugh.

1. 2003 NCAA Tournament 2nd Round Tulsa vs. Wisconsin. I hated this game. Why? Because I had to work during the game at the Wal-Mart. I had it taped so I could watch it when I went home. I was just hoping no ********** at work would ruin it for me. I should have never worn that damn TU shirt to work that day. Sure enough, some customer just had to tell me what happened, after I had told him twice not to. Went home and watched it anyway. TU dominated this game, and was up 10 at the under 4 timeout of the 2nd half. Really no other eay to put it, other than they choked. Freddie Owens corner 3 from the left side.......nothing but net. 1 second left, and then game over. Easily the most brutal make against TU I have ever seen.

Honorable Mention: Gonzaga vs. Washington December 4th, 2005. Morrison scores 43 in a loss.

For games I was in attendance, easily the Jim Leyritz homer off Wohlers in game 4 of the '96 W.S. Stomach punch game. Up 6-0 through 5 innings. All started when that freaking ump got in the way of a Jeter flare in foul territory. He singled later in the bat in an inning that cut the lead from 6 to 3 setting the stage for the homer later in the game.

For games watched on TV, Lonnie Smith being duked at second base by a rookie and not scoring from first on a hit-and-run double to the gap by Pendleton. If he was watching the ball or his 3rd base coach, Jack Morris doesn't get his signature win and his HOF candidacy would be where it belongs - over.

1990: Dale Earnhardt leading on final lap of Daytona 500, cuts a tire, looses the lead in the final turn to Derrick Cope. I took 8 long years for Earnhardt to finally win Daytona 500.

Mine is football related:

Titans versus Rams, Super Bowl: One. Freaking. Yard. That's all Derrick Mason needed, was one more yard. It was my first time experiencing heartbreak as a sports fan (until that season, none of the teams I was a fan of had come close to playing in a championship game/series). I was absolutely crushed.
For every fan's pain, there is another fan's joy. "We" woulda beat you in overtime, anyway ;)

Mine comes almost exactly two years later as Adam Vinatieri kicked the game winning FG against the Rams. I'm still bitter that Marshall Faulk only touched the ball nine times in that game. To this day I can't fathom what Mike Martz was thinking as he executed his offensive game plan.

My earliest memory of sports pain is 9-22-81. I was 14 and had a severe case of Fernandomania. I also already had a deep dislike for the Giants. Fernando got beat by the Giants that night, and I remember feeling this ache - I couldn't believe my new hero had been beaten by those stinking Giants. The pain was greatly eased as the Doyers went on to win the Series against the Yankees and Fernando won all kinds of awards.

Joe Carter, 1993 World Series, Game 6.

Mother XXXXer.

Booyeah!

The series that made me curl up in the corner and cry was the 94 Stanley Cup playoffs. The series run was probably the most exciting stretch of hockey I've seen for the Canucks. Pavel Bure was phenomenal. Losing to the Rangers was brutal. I

I feel your pain man. That's my moment too....however it was Kevin Dyson, not Derrick Mason. Remember dyson, the player the Titans drafted from Utah before Randy Moss back in 1998 because they didn't want somebody of Moss's character on the team. They abandoned that philosophy in 2005 when they selected Adam "PacMan" Jones

watching the Red Sox's hopes of breaking the curse go right through Bill Buckner's legs..

Seeing the Lakers(my favorite team since I was a little kid) get beat by the Celtics a few times dating back to the early 80's...

Watching Matt Cassel week in and week out for the Cheifs and wondering why they just HAD to have him when they already had perfectly capable career backup QB's already on the roster they could start...

Sid Bream - 92 NLCS. To top it off, I was a Pirate fan living in Atlanta at the time.

Yeah, I had to go back and edit that.

Can't believe my memory is so bad I thought Derrick Mason was the one with that catch.

That non-pick of Moss and that last play will forever haunt my dreams as an Oilers/Titans fan.

At least we eventually had Moss on our team.....when he completely stopped caring about truly playing and then disappeared from the football field. (And I know he is playing for the 49ers now and had a TD last week, but he did disappear for awhile there and Titans fans were pissed by the way he "played" the end of the season for them.)
