Re: THE FCB BASEBALL CARD HALL OF FAME

I agree with many of the choices listed. To the pre-1950 category, I would add the 1903 E107 Breisch-Williams. The E107 set was the first major release of the 20th century, featuring one of the earliest cards of Honus Wagner.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but wouldn't Ruth's true rookie be his 1916 M101-5?

The Goudeys were the first Ruths released in packs, I believe. Thus making them his first "true" rookie cards. He has MANY cards from 1914-1932.

I've seen a couple of serious votes for 1981 Donruss.

I only looked at the first post..... but if someone hasn't mentioned 1984 Donruss Don Mattingly for the singles, you all deserve a swift kick in the most painful area.  :D ;)

1984 Donruss had to be added. It was a hobby saving set, period.

Also, this may be crap now, but when these came out in 1992, it marked the first time a young collector couldn't walk in to a shop or card show and pick up the BEST card in a NEW release for $5 or less. For me, these were the first cards that were, almost at release, priced beyond a 12 year old's budget

Re: Which decade means the most to our hobby

1981 Topps Traded set. Its what started the Traded/ Update craze.
1963 Rose was THE hottest vintage (though current player) rookie at the start of the boom
1986 Sportflics were actually the first packed out premium card.
1986 Donruss Canseco was one of the most "expensive" cards of a prospect out of a brand new pack.
1979 Bump Wills error/correct was probably the hottest non rookie or star card for years.
1982 TT Ripken
1975 Topps Minis were blazing hot for a 20 year span.
1990 Score Bo reached $15 for a brand new, out of pack non rookie or short print.
1987 Fleer Clark blew up that set.
1985 Fleer box set Limited Edition was the main start of the 33/44 card box sets made for chain stores.
2001 Topps/Chrome Traded was the first product to have both Topps and Chrome in the same pack and that lead to 2002 BCDP.
1996 Signature Series was the first to have an auto per pack.
1990 UD Reggie auto was the first in pack auto.
