They are defended which no one else is.........which makes for long threads.

Oh c'mon Lance, you know that's not true. There are people here who stick up for UD and/or Topps to the point that people accuse them of being secret employees of the companies.

All the companies have their haters, and they also have their defenders.

People here bitch about every manufacturer. Topps, panini, upper deck, leaf......everyday there are complaints. Only
difference is that the leaf fanboys here get upset when something negative is said about leaf.

If its a topps screwup thread, its all about how unnacceptable that screw up is, jobs should be lost; embargos created. If its a leaf screwup thread, its all about "well any logical person knows you can't please everybody"

Exactly.

I typically avoid the Leaf threads, unless I'm looking for a good laugh and/or a headache, but I've always been struck by the constant overhyping of the products. Good products stand on their own, they do not need to remind how great they are, and how unique they are, how they are exactly what collectors are begging for and no other companies have the stones to offer it to them, etc etc etc. A hard sell is not required for something that a lot of people want.

IMO any thread or news about Leaf - good or bad - is marketing as it keeps people thinking about the company and its products.

I think it's Bri's ego that gets on peoples nerve. He comes in here telling everyone that he can buy anything and
take on anyone in court, not the time to be flaunting your wallet around.

If people were content in their own career choice, none of that would matter.

I read stuff like that people post and just ignore it because I don't care what anyone else has.

Seems to be a pretty broad generalization. It is entirely possible to have simply been "put off" by the bad side of Brian's presence here -- and by that, I mean the bravado and boisterous self-promotion -- without being jealous of him or being unhappy with one's own choices. I don't think anybody would deny that Brian is a polarizing figure, and he's not that way by accident.

He's done well despite letting himself get dragged into piss-fests far too often (but admittedly not as often as he used to be). A person who makes the decision to be aggressively front-and-center to promote his product often does so at the cost of completely alienating a certain cross-section of the audience to whom he speaks. He's apparently decided the benefits outweigh the cost. To his credit, he's not coming on here and saying, "Why do some people dislike me?" He's smart enough to know the answer and to be okay with it.

Here's my take on part of it.

Razor sucked balls. It was awful. Every product I seen that was released looked horribly cheap and tacky. And don't even get me started on the generic designs of the MMA product.

THEN.......THEN........THEN..........Razor promises some huge announcement and it turns out that, since Razor sucks so bad, they go out and purchase a name of a brand that was beloved in the collecting world, Leaf. Instead of just trying to carve their own niche in the market, they decide to just buy someone else's name and try and ride those coattails as long as possible.

And the Crusades I seen the other day. I think that's a ridiculous idea too, but I refrained from commenting in the thread. I'm hard enough on the guy anyway, I didn't want to just pour it on. The cards looked decent, but that's not really the point. He copied someone else's previous ideas blatantly without shame. That's the bad thing.

The ideas that 'Razor/imitation Leaf' have come up with all on their own have been completely awful. So they've just decided to start copying other peoples ideas and designs with reckless abandon.

Plain and simple, from day one, I haven't taken the company, whatever it decides to call itself tomorrow, seriously. I just think they're a joke.

Call me an *******. I'm fine with that. I've been called an ******* every single time I've ever spoke up against the mighty Brian Gray. It's fine. But I think it's very sad that he's on here acting like he does sometimes. It doesn't reflect well on the company he is trying to build when he's on an internet message board acting like a baby when someone says something bad about his company.

But what do I know, I'm just a collector.

I would bet a million dollars that if Brian Gray wasn't participating on this message board his supporters would be cut down to at least 1/4 of what they are now.

If the Topps or Upper Deck owner was on the site all of the time, there'd be hundreds of people on their jock too trying to suck up to them acting like they're the greatest thing since sliced bread. It's just the way some people are.

To the OP, these are just my opinions -

1. People are jealous, many here wish they could start a card company

2. Brian is TOO accessible - it is great for some of us, others, just plain abuse it

3. People on this board flat out LOVE TO BITCH

4. People on these boards have nothing better to do than find flaws in EVERYTHING (bitch, moan, whine, see above)

5. I think deep down, many still hold Razor's absolute blunder of a prospect product against Brian and Leaf. If we never knew the owner, or who the owner was, the anxst wouldn't have transferred over.

Again, just my opinions

edit - nvm, not getting suckered in.

Oh, come on. Don't you want to simply talk sense and reason only to be called a Leaf "defender" or "supporter".

Been there, done that. The stubbornness on these boards rates an "11", especially when discussing Brian. I'm taking the high road, for once.

Why is it so wrong to not like something/someone?

I think Ali Metal and Rose look great. I don't like Draft or Valiant.

Why is that a problem?

What if some people just don't like Brian or his products, or hold a grudge from the Razor debacle?

Why is this such a HUGE problem for so many people here?

Why are you a hater if you don't like something?

What is the point of this board if people can't express their opinions, positive AND negative?

I can tell you right now if someone from Topps or Panini frequented these boards, there would be much more criticism.
I would be the first in line for that one!

Pretty sure no one is against others disliking a product and/or company and speaking their mind about it. It's the flaming of another member (Brian) that gets on mine and maybe others' nerves. He's a member here just like everyone else and the personal attacks should not be happening, as they are not allowed towards any members. Too many of these people attack Brian and not the product, which is uncalled-for. Yes, Brian bites back sometimes, but he's defending himself and his products, which I understand. I would go about it differently, but I do understand it. As for "defending" products, people have as much right to do so as you have to trash them, so what is your problem with people also speaking their opinions. Are we only allowed yours.

i, for one, would LOVE to see what he could do with all the required licenses.

Why don't we just ask Brian?

Brian - you have just acquired a MLBP license. Tell us what your first step is, what products do you want to put out, and what strategy will you implement to compete with Topps?

I honestly think people are still so pissed about all the razor guys that BG signed as exclusives. I watched people bitch and moan about the lack of Pedro Alvarez, Hosmer, Smoak, Tim Beckham, etc. in Bowman/Topps products for two years. These people are still mad.
BG allows a level of transparency and accessibility that we all ask for in the industry. Like him or not he's trying to do things right and the haters will always be there. People hate Topps, UD, ITG. Big deal. You dont like Leaf dont buy it. I hate asparagus and if it posted on FCB I would tell it how terrible it was too.
