Send him his gift back and take regular payment. You will have better piece of mind and can stop asking everyone the same question over and over.

"If it is too good to be true it probably is."

Is there a way to know if this was a credit card transaction or if he sent it from his paypal balance? If he did it through his paypal balance, there nothing he can do.

see, now it sounds like you are trying to pull one over on him.

No, there is no way to tell what source of funds he used.

He's slipping further and further.....into the dbag zone.

you guys are going in the wrong direction w/this. I just want to make sure there is no way he can do a chargeback...that's why I was asking.

another seller sent me a message saying that he would offer me more...

It's all very strange, but... I don't believe this. I'm sure you mean another buyer, but really? You got an offer higher than $1200 from some random person? And you went back to the original buyer and asked for a couple hundred more, and he said no problem and sent it? I think he really does have some plan to get his money back...

"If he gifted $1,200 to me could I: send an empty package, insure it for $1,200 say it got lost in the mail and get that $1,200 too?"

Just trying to expedite the process for where this thread is going.

you guys are really getting off topic here. I am not looking to screw anyone in a deal. I've done over 1500 transactions on ebay.

and yet this one is soooooooooo much more difficult. i think you should hold the card and hopefully he will produce at a .259 25 80 yearly average for the pirates.

I've done 12 but know better than to accept a gift of $1,200. I say do the right thing and be rewarded.

Now you're just being unfair. A team would actually have to have some major league players on it's roster to trade for him.

Potential issues for the seller-

NO seller protection whatsoever for gift payments- buyer can still file a chargeback w/his cc, can still claim someone ‘hacked’ his paypal acct, can still use a stolen paypal acct, can still dispute w/his bank, etc…which means there are many ways you can be SOL

paypal accts can be suspended for abuse of the gift option

ebay accts can be suspended for abusing the ‘mutual cancellation’ option

ebay accts can be suspended for trying to get more $ out of the buyer

bottom line: don’t strongarm buyers for extra $$$ in violation of ebay rules (you just helped him if he’s trying to scam you- + it may cost you your ebay acct + the $$$ + the card) + don’t take gift payments if you’re not willing to LOSE IT ALL.
