With the fact that he started recording right there, and that he took so long to open the pack that it seemed like he was trying to take that long - I'd guess it was setup to be on camera like that. The back seal on the pack looks like it's already split toward the start, and it looks like the was just pressing the end together to make it look like he was trying to open it.
