So I was watching Baseball Tonight the other day when Rivera notched save no. 600. They were saying that Rivera deserves a spot on the Yankees Mt. Rushmore. I hate the Yankees and I still find that blasephemous.

It did get me thinking however about that idea...who would be on the Mt. Rushmore of your favorite franchise?

I know there are only four presidents on Mt. Rushmore, but I would expand it to as many as 5 players who most epitomize the history of a franchise.

I will start with my Rangers:

Nolan Ryan

Juan Gonzalez

Ivan Rodriguez

Michael Young

By the way, IMO the Yankees would be...Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, and Jeter.

Red Sox: Ted Williams, Carl Yastrzemski, David Ortiz, and [strike:1xnsxpkv]Dick Pole[/strike:1xnsxpkv] Pedro Martinez.

Clemens could have been there if not for his defection and subsequent juicing (Duquette was right all along). Ortiz gets the nod over some other notable named because he did help finally bring a WS championship to Boston. Oh, and there was that great left-handed pitcher the Sox had 95 years ago, put up near-HOF in a few seasons...some guy by the name of Ruth...

Brewers

Yount, Molitor, Cirillo, and they thankfully just began re-chiseling Geoff Jenkins face to look like Ryan Braun
Honorable Mention: Cecil Cooper

I agree with ESPN. I would pick Rivera because like Ruth he is the greatest of all time at his position by a HUGE margin. For that reason, I have always felt Rivera is the second greatest Yankee in history after Ruth. I would pick Mantle or Berra long before Jeter, both are 3x MVPs. You could make an argument that Jeter isn't even the best SS on the current team.

Pirates:

Honus Wagner, Roberto Clemente, Willie Stargell, Bill Mazeroski.

All four have statues outside PNC Park.

Did the Yankees fans in this thread forget about DiMaggio or do you guys really not rank him that high.

Greater than Lou Gehrig? I wouldn't argue that perhaps Rivera deserves mention with the other all time greats but Lou Gehrig is Lou Gehrig.

Cardinals-

I'd put:

Musial, Hornsby, Pujols, Bob Gibson.

In 10 years I feel Pujols has justified his inclusion on this list and people always tend to forget Hornsby but he is the greatest right handed hitter of all time.

What about the guy that hit the HR to win your 2nd world series?

A fantastic moment, no doubt. But he wouldn't crack my top 10 of Greatest Jays. Greatest moments, for sure- that's top 1/2 (prob 2nd behind Alomar's HR off Eck) but he was a pretty one-dimensional slugger.

I know you're joking, but here are a couple:

Earl Weaver, Cal Ripken Jr., Frank Robinson had some great years in Baltimore
