I'm not sure it was hobby, since it didn't matter at the time, but I know the first "box" of cards I opened was a 1991 Topps. Was going for the Griffey Jr. to complete my set and I remember I only got 1.

In 2000, I bought what I'm positive was a hobby box of 2000 BC football. Pulled the Tom Brady and it didn't matter until 4 years later :)

In 2005 when I got back into it big time, it was a box of 2005 Topps Chrome Series 2. I think Cordier was the auto.

1985 Topps, Fleer and Donruss in '85 when I started seriously collecting.
Boxes of 36 packs/15 cards/540 cards cost about $12 back then.
Donruss was slightly more expensive because of the perceived scarcity.
Fleer started getting more expensive ($25) in '87.

Mine came from a local Wal-Mart - I was surprised to see a hobby box there so I snatched it up (even though I learned later it was around $10-20 too high).

2005 Fleer Tradition. It was a decent box as it yielded my first patch card (Miguel Cabrera /50).

06 BCDP - Got it early in 2008 - pulled a Longoria chrome auto and sold it for $100. It wasn't a bad price at the time.
