what J.P. said

it seems there would be a way to edit the original thread title, not merely the subtitle. Is there a some sort of setting that I (and others) are missing?

Agreed. I just tried to edit the title of a thread I opened and I can change the title of the post, but not the title of the thread that appears on the "index" page...even though it says edit title. I am sure it is there...but I can't find where to do it.

I see Gilmo edited this thread's title.

A while ago, Muskiesfan edited another thread's title. Evidently, only the staff has this privilege.

You took the words right out of my mouth.

Chris -is this a setting that can be turned on for us regular folk?

On the very first post of the thread you started, click edit, and then go advanced. What you are looking at is the text box. At the top of the box should be a box that says Reason for Editing. Right below that should be the Thread Title. Below that, your message.

In Thread Title, change the title and remember to hit save. That is how to edit a thread title.

*EDIT It's not Thread Title, just Title.

The way you explained it is just how we're doing it. However, all that does is edit the subtitle under the main thread title. It appears that there might be a setting that only allows Moderators to change a thread's title. If that's the case, can this be fixed? I can't imagine a reason why this 'privilege' would be withheld from the at-large membership. If there is a reason, can we know what it is?

I did that. It changed the title of the post (the first one in the thread) when you open the thread to the new title...but the thread title on the index page remained the same. I believe you...I just think I am missing something (although I have gotten pretty good at changing the title of my posts, just not my threads).

Hmm. I'm just trying to figure it out. I just went and took the exclamation point out of my Brandon Phillips thread and it worked like a charm.

A mod can edit a title. Once there is a post after the 1st post the main title of the thread can be edited but will not show up as the change at the top of the thread

Yes but you are a moderator. I think that's what a couple guys are getting at. It appears only the mods have the ability to edit the title of threads.

to echo MisterT, I just bumped a thread in the "Set Builders" forum. I mistakenly posted a 1969 Football wantlist in the Baseball section and have been attempting to change it for quite some time. I followed muskiesfan's instructions (which is exactly the same as I've always been doing it), and am still only editing the subtitle.

muskiesfan, it is entirely possible that all of us are doing the exact same thing, but there is some sort of setting in the overall control panel that allows Moderators to edit thread titles, but not the general membership. Can this be looked into?

Okay, I will check into it. Maybe that is the case that only Mods can change thread titles. I just assumed that since I was not using a Mod tool, that it was something everyone can do.

I apologize for my confusion.

Still can't edit the title of the thread. Tried what you said Chris and nothing. Just changes the original title of the thread, not the topic headline or whatever we see on the forums as a list. (if that makes any sense ... : )

I STILL can't log in from my work computer. I log in, get the "redirecting" screen saying "thanks for logging in" yet then it refreshes me back to the sign in screen and I am still not signed in. My home computer will let me sign in, but won't keep me logged in. Don't mind using the app but typing anything substantial on my iPhone drives me to the brink.

This happens to me too...but see if this does anything for you. When you login then get kicked back to the login screen...click on the "Forum" button. If it does what it does to me, it should give you the full FCB as if you are logged in :) Hope that makes sense, if not let me know and I'll elaborate further.
