Finishing up the Wright rookies from 2002.....

As wonderful as the Bowman Chrome cards are, I think these are my favorites. 2002 Bowman's Best game used bat cards; base, blue, red, and gold. In my opinion, they just look so good together!


I know I said I wasn't going to post EVERY card I have in my collection, but I though I would at least post up all the rookies....even if these last three aren't too exciting. From left to right, 2002 Bowman Heritage base and the black box variation as well as the 2002 Topps Total card.


Funny that every card of his from 2002 is the same darn photo, save for the Pristine cards.

Oh and 2002 Bowman's Best was great, as well. I wish Topps burned more designs on bat pieces, UD did that more back in the day.

Wooo, those look good! Great coloring, the gold pops out nicely. How did you capture that? A scanner? Unfortunately, I only have my phone to take the pictures of the Wright collection.....but maybe one day, if I decide to log each card on a website or something similar, it will be done with a quality scanner.

Yeah I have a Canoscan 9000f Mark II scanner that I do all my card pictures with...it can make some of the Refractors pop but others end up looking oddly dull, or white instead of reflective. I've seen good results from people using cell phone cameras with homemade lightboxes.

Interesting, I wonder why it gives you different results. I didn't know about diy light boxes, just looked them up online. Super easy to make.

Starting off the night with the only card issued in 2003 from a major brand. 2003 Bowman Future Fibers g/u bat. Has some chipping around the edges, but honestly, I am not super picky about my raw cards.


2004 has a few releases from Topps, Donruss, Upper Deck and the likes. 2004 Bowman Sterling was the only release to feature his autographs. Have them all here (minus the 1/1 red refractor); base, refractor /199, and uncirculated black refractor /25. I used to have a graded card as my black refractor placeholder, but really wanted one in it's original form as an uncirculated card. Happy when this one came along!

Sticking with 2004....

2004 Bowman Draft Picks and Prospects base and gold. Also managed to snag a plate, which was a neat thing to do. I don't see too many of his plates from the earlier years surface. Also the futures g/u jersey from that set.

I'm really no good at this whole "post only the glamorous cards" thing. It's just that.....I REALLY like all my cards, it's hard to filter through and pick certain ones over others. I guess that is a good thing!

So in that spirit, I give you the nearly all the remaining cards from 2004. Starting with the Donruss Elite Extra Edition release. I don't know, I'm just a real sucker for these cards. Maybe I'm easy to please. But I just love the die cut-ness, the coloring.....everything about this design I love. I think they're neat because, unlike a lot of colored parallels which rely on colored borders or colored foil, these do a colored background. And not even a full background, I just like how the colored stripe hits it off with the silvery foil. Ok, enough gushing. Base card is to the left. Then Turn of the Century parallel (black) /750, Aspirations (red) /95, Status (blue) /5, and Status Gold /10. The Aspirations/Status (red and blue) for each player will total 100 copies. The Status card is limited to the particular player's jersey number, while the Aspirations card makes up the difference. Sadly, I am still missing the Aspirations Gold /25 card


While not nearly as cool (in my opinion anyway), I managed to complete the run of 2004 Studio cards. Base, Silver Proof /100, Gold Proof /50 and Platinum Proof /10.



Last up is a trio of 2004 Ultra cards. Base /500, Gold Medallion, and Platinum Medallion /13. That last one was a doozy to try and find. I was worried about that one for a while, since I only ever saw backdoored unnumbered versions listed.



I am really nerding out here to my own collection, how ridiculous! But how cool, right.....a couple of really low numbered parallels, I just had to. This has been fun so far, sharing these cards with whoever cares to look.

I totally agree with you on the underrated part for sure! Honestly, some of my favorite cards are simple low numbered parallels, not autos or game used, just some low number singles.

Thank you for the kind words! I wasn't too much of a poster either until I started this thread. More just lurking around admiring everyone else's stuff. I'm glad you are enjoying it.

I do not. It's very high up my "wants" list. It certainly is going to be a sneaky and crazy difficult one to find. Difficult to judge sometimes by just looking at photos. I do try and look at each base card that hits the market to see if I find one. Would guess that's how it would go, rather than a seller list on as a non canvas card. If you have a copy of one, I'd love to see it. Any player, just haven't really seen one before.

Exhausting day today, so just a brief look at my eTopps autographs. Seemed like a good night to show these, before I officially start 2005. I forget the print runs off the top of my head, and they are each different. Something somewhere between 40-70-ish.

I am fairly certain he only has signed cards in 2005 - 2007. I have all the base cards as well, from the 2005 - 2010. He is featured on three cards in 2005 and two in 2009, otherwise it's just one base card each year. Maybe I'll post them all another time.

Had a late day working on my cars yesterday out in the sun, so unfortunately I missed posting yesterday. Might have some more late days coming up as well

Anyway, on to 2005. I think I mentioned in the beginning of this thread that I have a particular focus on cards from 2006 and prior. As there weren't too many cards released in 2001-2004, I was able to get all of those (minus any 1/1's.....and I'm not even sure there were any 1/1 cards from those years, save for the printing plates). So year 2005 really does start the first year were there are just a TON of cards to find. I do have the lofty goal of obtaining every card from 2006 and prior (minus 1/1's), which might be damn near impossible considering the shear number of them from 2005 alone (there were a good deal less cards of David's produced in 2006, but still a lot).

On top of those collecting goals, I have a particular love for the following releases; Bowman (and chrome), Finest, Topps (and chrome).....although there were no Topps Chrome cards for Wright in 2005. So from 2005 through 2012, I have made sure to try and obtain the rainbows from those releases, however, I did narrow that down to just the cards numbered /50 and below for 2009 - 2012, since there were an increasing number of parallels and they were pretty high numbered. I figured if I ever wanted to officially complete those rainbows, I could at a later date fairly easily.

So I'll open 2005 with ALL of those releases....

Bowman; base, 1st edition, gold, and white /240. Nothing too special or particularly difficult to find, but still love them!


Bowman Chrome; base, refractor, blue refractor /150, gold refractor /50, red refractor /5, and x-fractor /225. Gee do I ever love that red one. Besides being the rarest, it's just a swell looking color as a refractor. I do know the super has been pulled. It happened to be sent to PSA and came back as a 10. It was for sale for a while at over $1,000, which I couldn't justify spending. Don't know what happened to it, but I will likely never get a hold of it. No worries.


Finest....and there are a lot of them; base, refractor /399, blue refractor /299, green refractor /199, black refractor /99, gold refractor /49, x-fractor /250, blue x-fractor /150, green x-fractor /50, black x-fractor /25, gold x-fractor /10. Even managed to find a yellow plate 1/1 too!




Topps; base, 1st edition, gold /2005, black /54.

Great stuff! Weirdly I've found as a team collector that the 2005 Bowman White parallels are sneaky tough. And yep the 2005 Bowman Chrome Red Refractors look incredible, I wish I had more than two...I just have an Eric Chavez 5/5 plus a Cliff Pennington Auto out of the Draft set where they were 1/1's. The Blues and Golds looked great that year, too.

You don't say? I guess anything with a limited release would be tough. Got lucky and crossed the white parallel off my list early on, and have seen a small handful surface since.

For sure, the red refractors do look great! And considering the two you do have, that's darn nice!

I guess there's not exactly a "best place" in my whole semi-chronological order of postings to share these, so here will do. Since I have that mini focus on a few specific releases per year, I have tried to gather all of the Finest autographs of David's. He was featured in each year from 2005-2012 (and possibly beyond, but I don't collect those years). So as opposed to showing each year's autos with the other cards from that respective year, I'll lay them all out here.....

2005 and 2006 were both issued as a refractor and an x-fractor /25. The 2006 refractor has a non numbered print run of /470. While you can't quite see in these pictures, the non x-fractors are indeed refractors, just didn't have great lighting.


In 2007, the basic "autographed refractor" subset was dropped and the introduction of the "finest moments" subset began. The autos are a base and refractor /25, sticking with the whole non numbered version and serial numbered /25 parallel.


In 2008, they continued the "moments" subset, but added a little color in favor of a base/refractor offering. Base autograph and a red refractor /25. In addition to the "moments" autographs, there was another autograph subset called "team favorites". David was on that checklist. Base is /100 and red refractor is /25. There was also a "team favorites" dual with Jose Reyes, which I have, I just left that card in with the rest of the 2007 autographs, instead of separating it out, like I do the individual Finest autos.


2009 and 2010 stuck with the base and red refractor /25 "moments" autos as the only autograph subset available in their product.


All hell broke loose in 2011 and 2012, lol. While they continued the "moments" subset in 2011, Finest added a jersey piece to the card and offered it in base /74, gold refractor /20 and purple refractor /5. I do not have the purple card as of yet. They also offered a few additional rookie autograph insert subsets too. In 2012, things got ridiculous. Finest had about 13 billion autograph inset subsets (and, as I was saying in my first post, this is why I stopped collecting after 2012 all around.....things just got too crazy). Luckily, Wright was only featured in the "faces of the franchise" subset. It's a cool enough looking card, and just limited to /15, but it does look a bit strange with all the other sort of consistent yearly autograph sets.

Been a while working a bunch of late days in a row, my goodness. But back to it.....

2005 Absolute; base, black, blue, red, spectrum silver /100, spectrum gold /10. The colored foil cards, although not numbered, are inserted at various odds. 1:3 for a blue, 1:8 for a red, and 1:24 for a black. That completes this run, minus the platinum 1/1.


2005 Diamond Kings could have been an absolute mess in terms of cards and parallels. Luckily for me, Wright was kept off most stuff except the standard parallels and autographs. First photo is; the base card, the "challenge" embossed parallel and a 1/1 "challenge" embossed parallel. Quick cut and paste explanation from baseballcardpedia about the challenge set.....(The first 450 collectors to send into Donruss-Playoff a complete 450 base set (not including the 50 Black & White variations) would receive a special DK Challenge factory set. Each card is embossed with a special "DK Challenge" logo and packaged in a custom, serial-numbered, box. Each set would also come with a matched set of four printing plates and two random one-of-one inserts) Second photo is a close up of the embossment. Now the last card is a curious one. It is embossed with the word "challenge" just like the middle card in the second photo, except it is serial numbered 1/1. There is a story however. Short version is, supposedly the very first person to send in the entire set had their redeemed challenge set stamped 1/1, to indicate it was the very first set. There was a special box and letter from Donruss as well. This complete redeemed 1/1 set surfaced on ebay in late 2017 and there was a thread here talking about it. Everyone who won their cards at auction and posted photos here did show consistency in the stamping.....all a bit sloppy. No real consensus as to whether or not it is real, but I didn't pay much for my copy, so I don't mind much either way.





A nice and easy look at the non framed parallels; bronze /100, silver /50, and gold /25.


And the framed parallels; red, blue /100, green /50, and black /25. It might be hard to see in the picture, but the frames are colored a dull-ish color associated with the foil stamping.


I am missing two parallels. One is the Hawaii Trade Conference card.....it is embossed and serial numbered /10. The other is a non-canvas parallel, which is not serial numbered, but there is only a print run of /20. That card would look almost identical to the base card, except it would lack that canvas-like look and feel to it. I don't know if you can see clearly, but look at the close up photo I showed below and you can see that checkered canvas look throughout the surface of the card. The non-canvas would simply be smooth. I imagine this is going to be outrageously hard to find, considering it's closeness to the base card in looks. There are, as usual, 1/1's as well. There are five....one platinum stamp and one platinum version of each colored frame. As is always the case for me, they are certainly something I try to chase, but I don't really worry about them in terms of completing a run.
