A few days worth of mail as we had a long weekend out of town to see our youngest son get married.

Jenkins /15. I like that this is a Rangers card, as most of his stuff seems to be Cubs.

A few cheapo autos. I do love looking through my autographs and just seeing a wide variety (and volume) of different players and cards. Best hobby innovation ever, pack inserted autographs!

Swoopes Redemption. I always keep these redemptions with my autographs and when I can, i add the actual signed card. In this case, I do not have the signed version.

I was super excited to win and receive this. I loved the aging Tarkenton as a kid, although he retired right after I got into cards. I also love signed cards and neat redemptions before they turned into plain labels with scratch off codes. These were truly cool cards and still leave you with a decent collectible, even if the time has lapsed and you couldn't trade it for the actual prize. I also consider these tougher in many cases, because most were probably redeemed and either destroyed, punched or otherwise defaced in someway. This particular card was redeemable for a Tarkenton Auto/relic /25. I looked for a signed copy and didn't see any on ebay. I would love to pair this with an actual signed copy.

Then there are these 2 Time Warp Youngblood autos. These are the 8x10 versions. Got them for next to nothing and felt a little bad for the seller too. Cool set idea.

I loved this design as a kid and had to scoop up the set. I would prefer the baseball insert set, but will take the football "base" set. This is 108 prism cards and a checklist. They did some other prism designs, but this was always my favorite style.

Finally another Joe Kapp OPC RC. I went on a small spree trying to win 1 and ended up with 3!

In a moment of desperation I did. I had it valued around $150. Had just sold a few things so really only paid half in my mind but still an overpay for sure.
As you know, a Pesky 1/1 is going to be more special to a collector than a Frank Thomas, Cal Ripken or other star 1/1, since there are 3000 other 1/1s you can go chase. I am guessing Pesky only has a handful and the majority are probably printing plates, if he has any others.

This is what i would call a slow mail day for sure.

A neat, but VERY plain (still way better than modern redemptions), instant win redemption card. I think it was $1.

You should have seen the standard trading card mailer this arrived it. It looks like it fell into a mud puddle. Thankfully the card was fine. Another super cheap one, maybe $2? I remember really liking this set when they were issued and wishing/hoping for the Marshall Faulk SDSU auto. I ended up buying one somewhere along the way. Still one of my favorite Faulk cards. This is less famous Raiders pick form that year, Rob Fredrickson.

Could very well be true. Hopefully I find that person when the time comes. Otherwise, I hate setting the standard for lesser names in the set

Fair point. Set builders can and often do throw off a curve to get that last couple cards to close out a set. I would sometimes see high end (bat barrels/knobs/fancy patches, etc) Garvey cards sell for way more than they should have and always assumed it was either high end and/or set collectors when I didn't recognize the user ID, back when you could see them or figure them our at least.

1950-51 Toleteros Reprint Sample -- Given out by Lelands in 2005 at the NSCC promoting the discovery of this previously unknown set/card at the time of auction. I will never own the original, but happy to have this in my small Josh Gibson collection. Staying away from the shiny stuff and sticking with vintage-esque designs for the most part (except the Donruss). I enjoy the variety of releases, all with different uniform and photographs.

Finally did it. Bought the babe Ruth jersey fusion. Not game used but player worn pants from 1940 ( still pretty cool)

My question is. Would you leave as is or give it to fcbs own tanner and make a custom card out of it ( which I’m leaning towards ). What card design would you pick ? Thanks

As much as I love Tanner's work, I would leave this one as is.

Butkus 8x10. These are pretty nice. I prefer card sizes better, but I wouldn't mind adding a few more of these.

I was introduced to this set when I was trying to get a certified Johnny Oates autograph. Apparently these were not easy items to find and still remain rather elusive. I keep an eye on them and try to grab better managers when i have a chance. Several have ties back to the Dodgers like Oates, Davey Lopes, Phil Garner (have those previously mentioned 3), Mike Scioscia, Charlie Manuel, Bobby Valentine and of course, the actual Dodger manager card of Davey Johnson, which I have never seen and was told may not exist. I do not have any of the last 4 mentioned. For whatever reason, no Dusty Baker card was made, although he was managing at the time. Maybe he was not managing on opening day?
My latest add is Bruce Bochy. Shown fairly early in his career, before the big accolades started to pile up, although he had captured a NL pennant by that time. Some folks say he may eventually be a Hall of Famer due to his managerial success, because it would certainly not be due to his playing career. Tucked between Joe Torre and Sparky Anderson for career managerial wins at 6th place on the all time roster with 2252, he is the owner of 4 World Series titles and 1 manager of the year award across his 28 year career. His winning percentage is a hair below .500 though.
