Just wanted to posts a Thank You for this thread. I have been out of collecting for a while and had no idea how to tell the diffractors from the base. Got an education in this thread and found that I had two diffractors in my Kerry Wood Base cards. Bad news is that I now only have 12 different base. Good news is that I now have 2 of 90 Diffractors.

Yeah, I was wondering what the BIN was on the Jeter Diffractor since his other cards had BIN prices...?

I got a couple of 98s comin in the mail. So that brings my total to 22 regular, one diffractor

I was in for about half this amount. I know that there is a Juan Gone Diffractor showing (and an Andruw?), but WOW. Yeah, Juans sell for $75, but there better be some other goodness in there. I know some of this may be fueled by Juan-mania, but I wonder if this lot would have gone for so much before we started this thread.

Uh oh... then the seller turns right around and sells a lot of Diffractors for a $189 BIN

Here's what I think happened:
1. He posts this lot of Tek and starts getting backdoor offers. This tips him off that something is going on.
2. He eventually figures out that there are Diffractors in his lot and they are worth money.
3. He posts an update to his listing assuring buyers that there are "a few" Diffractors knowing that at least the two showing must be included.
4. He pulls the rest out, or most of the rest, and sells them as a lot, thus screwing the guy that paid $212. Well, that's debatable.
Wild, wild, stuff. If I were the first buyer I would be ticked off.

Was working against a deadline last night or I would have been all over that BIN lot of 10 diffractors. I need 7 of them, and none of them are easy to get. Can't be on eBay 24/7 though.
The seller might be Baseball Cards/Coin Specialist in Marblehead. Don't know him. Small store in a touristy area near a bunch of restaurants. No web site or eBay store. Looked at the seller's meager buy/sell history. Zero baseball cards that I can see. Softball bat, a few hockey cards (ex-BC, Canucks goalie Cory Schneider is from Marblehead), and some coins. Guy may have cracked three boxes that he had sitting around for 15 years, pulled out the Red Sox players for his walk-in sales and listed the rest of the cards. Numbers add up, but if that's the case he pulled some real nice diffractors. Bit of a gamble buying from a seller with so little feedback in two years, but remember "The Old Ballpark" hot boxes!

It is an undeterminable number. You have jerks like me stilling on old wax for no other reason than to not loose cash. FCB recently opened how many boxes? It is not as if the well if dry for that matter.

LOL! I def think there is a lot of older wax out there... but with 1998 Topps Tek, I have to think there isn't as much as people think. I mean damn, a box surfaces on eBay a couple time a year max AND they sell for like $125 a box instantly or for more! You tell me, how much were those boxes back in 1998? Is selling now for $150/box a huge loss? I'm really interested to learn more.
