the Auto's are freakin quality but there are only a handfull of guys in the base checklist I'll be going after. I'll still be shooting to get 10-12 cases as that Auto checklist with Stras and the USA Auto's is def. worth it!

I didn't see this mentioned on the sell sheets, but it is on Global's listing...they're listed as having just 18 packs per box. It's always been 24 packs per hobby, right?

That stinks (if true).

Bowman Chrome has been 18 pack boxes for a few years.

Used to be 24 packs and they added an encased Gold ref or Xfractor and knocked it down to 18 packs with the added card.... and later they removed the encased card and never upped the packs per box.

Well folks, I've now had ample opportunity to fully digest this information. Here now, is my assessment.

Pros

1) The USA auto cards and auto parallels will be money, especially if Rendon makes an appearance. Great addition to the product.
2) The Blue Refs have been scaled back to 150, and no sign of Xfractors. Great move.
3) Surprised no one's mentioned this -- ALL refractor parallels are numbered this time, even the Veteran Refs (500). Bonus points in my book. Can one of you mathemeticians extrapolate the print run from this?
4) I give the Prospect Auto checklist an A minus. Great crop. Not exactly sure of the legalities when it comes to Beckham, Alonso, Wallace and such, but if they can pull it off, more power to Topps. I already know for a fact I'll be stocking up heavily on at least a couple of names.
5) I notice that # 212 Grichuk and # 215 James are in the base CL, yet are TBD in the auto CL, which is good, since both have already had BC autos. Hopefully those spots will be filled in by good names.
6) Remember folks, the difference between the preliminary CL for Bowman and the final CL was night and day. I expect we'll see quite a few late additions (i.e. Starlin Castro autos, etc). So, don't panic.
7) Happy to see Strasburg will be the sole Green RC to have an Auto. Unless Topps decides to changes this, of course.

Cons

1) The late release date. You'd have to imagine interest will wane some, as both the Major and Minor league seasons will have concluded already. This does mean it'll be much, much more of a buyer's market this year. On the positive side, this will also mean Strasburg's Bowman autos will likely maintain their value for a longer period than we anticipated. Sure, he'll be in more products in the meantime, but Bowman's reputation is still secure. And only 776 of them to go around, remember?
2) Several big names in the auto CL are already in EEE's checklist, so I guess I'd better start unloading mine before too long. Kinda bummed to see Thompson in there when I spent so much on his EEE's. I've gotta imagine prices may already start to fall as more people see this CL.
3) Why bring back the Top 100 insert set? Sure, the Strasburgs were popular, but this is just a filler insert set that no one really cares about. And parallels this time? That just does nothing but get in the way of a wax buster's profit.
4) Why no parallels of the USA Dual Autos? I'd have to think those would have been very popular.
5) At this time, I'd have to give this base prospect checklist a lower grade than its' Bowman counterpart. It's cool to see some of these guys will also be autos again, but the remainder of the CL is about a B minus for me. Needs some rearranging, for sure.
6) Why keep the CL for the Logoman Patch cards a secret? I don't get this.
7) No Prospect Refractor Autographs? While this means the value for the Autographed parallels will undoubtedly be higher than otherwise, it likely means there will be more base Autographs printed than usual to compensate. Not digging that too much.

At this time, I'd give the product a solid B+ on the whole, and I will definitely be buying cases. Impressive effort, in my book. But Topps still needs to do more before October. Very much looking forward to the USA announcement of rosters.

That's my story.

The way I read it, it just means the prospect refractor autos will not be numbered.

Not true. If you look at the white information sheet, there is NO MENTION WHATSOEVER of Prospect Autographed Refractors. There are Supers, Reds, Oranges, Golds and Blues....and that's it. This sheet lists everything in the product, whether or not it's serial numbered, and it's missing.

I was looking at the sell sheet:
ROOKIE AND PROSPECT AUTOGRAPHS ARE AVAILABLE IN
THE FOLLOWING NUMBERED* REFRACTOR PARALLELS:
Super-Fractor: Hobby Exclusive! 1/1!
Red: Numbered to 5
Orange: Numbered to 25
Gold: Numbered to 50
Blue: Numbered to 150

That little asterisk makes me believe that they'll still be there; just not numbered. An assumption on my part...

Interesting pick-up. You'd think the only reason Topps wouldn't include auto'd refractors would be to save money. So cranking up the base autos doesn't save them money as these guys get paid per sig. I don't know...

Here, look at this. You'll notice even the Base autos are listed, in addition to the parallels. No mention of refractors.

The information sheet also just lists the 18U USA Team, so if that is the case, there is no chance for Rendon as his chance will be for the Collegiate National USA Team.

Again, I think we have to look at this as solely preliminary information.

Has anyone else noticed that Chase d'Arnaud is shown to have an autograph on the sell sheet, yet isn't in the CL?

Wonder if he's one of the TBD's.

There is no reason that Topps would discontinue the Refractor autograph. If I had to put my money somewhere, I'd bank on them being in the final product...the fact that they are missing from these sheets has got to be a mistake.

It could be that Topps is milking the USA's over multiple products. To get the collegitate national team, you have to go with Topps Chrome. To get the 18U national team, you have to go with Bowman Chrome. Hopefully that's not the game they are playing but it sure looks like it.

Not sure where I stand, as of now it seems like Topps Chrome might yield the best ROI for case busting. With Strasburg being shut down in early september and the regular season being over, anyone think this might hurt Strasburg values? Especially considering a handful or products will have already been released with him in it?
