Not really sure what you are basing your rankings on...

Roy Oswalt makes the list? Mike Mussina does not (Mussina is pretty much better in every category except ERA, but he does have those pesky 133 extra wins)

Well maybe you are going on shorter stretches of greatness as opposed to total counting stats...that's reasonable. So then how is Pedro Martinez below Oswalt on your list? From this era only Maddux can hold a candle to Pedro's stint in Boston, where from 1999 to 2003 his HIGHEST ERA was 2.39. Oswalt's lowest career ERA was 2.94 in 2005.

As for hitters this is where it gets pretty funny. Maybe you like Jim Edmonds 8 gold gloves, 4 All star games and 1 silver slugger. He was a nice player and a great one to watch flash the glove in center. So how could you defend the opinion that he is "greater" than Roberto Alomar? Alomar had 10 gold gloves, 12 All star appearances and 4 silver sluggers. That's minus 11 in Edmonds vs. Alomar in those 3 categories. Edmonds had more power and a lower batting average but Alomar also had those extra 400 stolen bases...

Further- Jeff Kent is high up on your list- and Barry Larkin is not!? I think I'll just stop there as I will get too worked up.

I did say IN NO ORDER ;)

And it is MY opinion on the top 25.

If yours differ, PLEASE post them. I am polling the BOARD for the greatest of the last 25 seasons, not just my opinion on the matter.

So, instead of criticizing my own PERSONAL 25, why not post your own?

hofautos-- Read the above line, thanks.

And please don't get offended or think I am being hostile, but you two are the only two who have outright questioned someone's personal opinion in this thread.

Absolutely no freaking way does Paul Molitor not make that list.

^ Molitors rookie year was 1977^

Ok. Ok. Ok.

You got me. I try one time to fly through a post without reading the whole thing cause I am at work and see what happens.

I'm an idiot.

My bad- missed the (in no order) line at the top of your post. Saw the general progression of greater to less great of the list and missed that line in your description. I am not trying to be hostile in any fashion- but without saying what you are basing your rankings on I guess I'd just be arguing with myself.
I guess that's why people post these silly lists all the time because they stir up discussion. Should be good for your blog.

Really? Here is my list.
I know. When I first started my list I thought it was going to be easy, I was very wrong as there are still more players I want to add on that list. I gave Biggio the Nod over Jeter because he has the 3000 hits. Its more than likley that nothing will happen to Jeter anytime soon and when Jeter gets past the 3000 hit mark I would exchange him with Biggio.

You probably shouldn't take this so personally bud, it is an opinion list (it's not determining who's who in the past 25 year's). The OP is going to be cool enough to do write-up's about 25 baseball great's (of which no one is mandated to read if thier ******'s are already headed north)...He's also being cool enough to ask everyone's opinion to help determine who to write on (which he could've dodged the headache of: "Oh waaa, my opinion differs from your's so I'm going to bring up what I think makes my opinion a better one..Waaa" & created a list of players which he himself came up with instead of allowing everyone thier opinion of selection). It's all real simple if you don't like someone's list, make your own! If you don't like someone's thread, make your own! If the OP's 25 write-up's aren't to your liking or you disagree with thier selection..."make your own"! There's no need in bashing someone or thier opinion because you disagree with it, & if you thought these type of list's were "silly" to begin with then why bother clicking on the thread in the first place?
Take care bud, Dave. :D

My List:

Albert Pujols

I know it's your list, but two of these guys have had four excellent years. Not sure Hanley and Holliday merit being on this list, though I haven't given any thought to who should be on there instead. Carlos Delgado and Jeff Bagwell come to mind right away.

Compare first 5 years of bags to hollidays stats and tell me what you come up with? Plus I am more convinced that Holliday is steroid free than bagwell.

Not a problem.

I figured with the playoffs starting and baseball heading into the offseason (for 22 teams at least) I could get some stimulating chatter going on.

And the rankings are based on talent, production (future production if they don't have the long careers YET that some of the others have), my own opinion and, in the end, the board's opinion as a whole.

Plus, looking over a few lists I am embarassed I missed a few guys (Larry Wayne and Roberto Alomar are probably the two biggies currently, though Glavine could be argued as well).

I hope you do decide to post a list though, as I am looking for as MANY opinions as possible before I get the list going.

I will promise this though, I will not release the entire 25 at one time and no one will know where everyone ranks until, well, I post the blogs. Though, I think everyone could probably guess #1A and #1B pretty easily ;)
