Congrats, you are a stud.

Hopefully next year, Topps will make it even more difficult, everyone is getting better every year.

Congratulations,

I can never figure out codes like this.. Didn't even try but how many cards did you need to crack the code?

I stopped in and read some of the methods being worked on and put in my two cents. I didn't spend 5 seconds on it. Congrats to the guy and to everyone else all worried about it..

It's not like the guy gets much acclaim for it. This year, he got a card - and I doubt anymore people know his name now than they did last year. No one outside of card collecting has any influence from him cracking the code or being in the set. No need to be bitter about him cracking it twice in a row. If you are that die-hard about getting that level of recognition why don't you go beat a eating challenge at your local burger joint.

congrats on cracking it.

whether or not you weer the first is immaterial, since there's definitely no big leads to the solution on this or any other website.

I'll be very interested in seeing it!

As for my contributions to this thread, I'll admit I got a little obsessed, but I knew it wasn't going anywhere. Because even though I could write down 2 and 3, I didn't know the operation or any other variables!

Can I have a link to your blog?

Do you have last year's solution up still?

Nick,

Did the photos on the outside of the boxes have anything to do with it? The Turkey, Astronomer, Ship and the Torch?

What are the list of cards that have boxes around the player's name on the front? I don't recall seeing that part of the code cracking in this thread and I bet that's part of finding the solution, just like last year.

Gotta love this: " It has been placed safely in a hard case for maximum protection since it was received by Topps.".

Topps has a reputation for damaging cards so the card has to be placed in a hard case?

I think the better wording is "After receiving the card directly from Topps, it has been placed in a hard case for storage and protection."

A couple things:

1) I hope you guys didn't give up yet, I may not have cracked this thing like I originally thought...guess that serves me right for saying anything before I heard from Topps... :D

2) NamesJay, my blog: http://cardboardoverload.wordpress.com/ 2009 solution blog: http://2009gintercodeunraveled.blogspot.com/

3) As for the Matt Holliday auction, that is Mike (the guy I worked with last year) selling it...we split the autos when they came in, although we sold the Phelps on ebay.

Don't give up on the code just yet!

Yah, I was going to post how if I got close, I'd tell everyone that I cracked it just to buy me a few extra days. I think spamming all of the message boards with success without having confirmation from Topps is a bit of a tactic. I'm not saying you did it but, I definitely would've if I needed a single card that I wasn't going to get for a day or two.

Secondly, how has Topps not excluded previous winners from the contest? It seems like that's standard fare for most contests.

Edit: looking again...don't give up yet :D

Pigskin - I wouldn't do that just to buy time...if that were the case I wouldn't have came back and said it might not have been done correctly...

False alarm...just went back through everything and I'm good.

Miggy - congrats if you did it! Just have to see who did it first!

So did you have to pay for your box from Global slash was it highly discounted, or did you buy it at their regular prices?

I also think that Topps might leave you hanging for a while to keep box sales up.

Pigskin - I got a small discount off of whatever their going rate at the time was, not much though...it was still a pretty penny! They will beat any price online though, so they are who I will continue to go to as long as they keep offering to beat everyone's prices...
