So Beltre won't be resigned, Youkilis will move to third, and Gonzalez will take over first?

Beltre 2010 Stats:

0.321 AVG - 0.365 OBP - 0.919 OPS - 28 HR - 102 RBI - 49 2B

Gonzalez 2010 Stats:

0.298 AVG - 0.393 OBP - 0.904 OPS - 31 HR - 101 RBI - 33 2B

It's likely that Gonzalez will do better in fenway poark, but how will he adjust to the AL?

Trust me, I don't like seeing the Sox get Gonzalez, but is Gonzalez/Youkilis really that much of an upgrade over Youkilis/Beltre?

Yeah it is, look at Beltre in 2009 and outside his contract seasons.

I just went and looked myself. If Beltre played every season like he did in his contract years, he'd be a monster. With that said, and I may be way off on this so please correct me if I am, but I don't think Seattle is exactly heaven for hitters.

I'm pretty sure Fenway was a big help to his numbers. Would he put up the same numbers next year? Who knows.

There is no doubt that Gonzalez is a better player, but how will he adjust to the AL? Will he be pitched around? How will Youkilis hold up at third?

This trade opens up a whole lot of new questions.

I think Gonzalez will mash in Fenway Park, left field is a bigger advantage than right field in Yankee Stadium, atleast to power hitting righties.

Beltre had a great season last year but people seem to have forgotten his years in Seattle. I think he is better known for his glove and not his bat. Youk has a great bat/glove as does Gonzalez. It may take Gonzalez some time to adjust to AL pitching, but like I have always been told "HITTERS always hit" they may go through slumps but in the end the numbers are always there.

Here is Gonzalez's PETCO spray chart overlayed on Fenway Park.

So instead of 11 homeruns Gonzalez would have 31...at home only.

I pray to god he cant hit AL Pitching. lol

im not sure how any Red Sox fan cannot be THRILLED with this trade?

Prospects are VERY overrated (especially on FCB) and Boston is getting a bionafied MLB Stud

How anyone could think that its not a significant upgrade over Beltre is beyond me. I'll give you the fact that Beltre+Vmart could be greater than Gonzalez, but I would bet the Sox also end up with Werth, slight chance at Crawford

Also Adrians stats in interleague: .286/.360/.505 Very similar to his career line......he will do just fine.

It's a win-win for both, any way you dice it.

If BoSox get Crawford, we will dominate MLB this year....that is, if Papelbon can learn how to control the ball.

We shall see. At least we won't have Beltre breaking any more of Ellsbury's ribs. ;)

Beltre had a solid year and was a presence in the lineup for sure. If we can dump Drew and put Kalish in there, the lineup will really look strong. Drew would make for a good totem pole in the dugout, however.

Financially, in 2011 for Boston, absolutely.

Yeah, I bet he's putting down some stout about now.

I suppose he's a good backup shouldn't anything happen. If Youk goes down, however, who can back him up?
Lowrie? Provided he is not our starting SS....

I've never heard of or seen Lowrie play 3rd. I think he'll win over the SS position from Scutaro. Sox should trade Scutaro for a solid backup 3rd-basemen. Actually, why don't they bring Bill Hall back? I think he's a solid backup player at nearly all the positions and he's got serious pop the more he plays. What did he have for the Brew Crew a few years ago, 36 dingers?

And if Lowrie goes down and no Scutaro, enter Mr. Iglesias!

Really? He has started 23 games at 3rd and played in 50 total games at 3rd base in the bigs...

I think they walked away from Hall because his option was too much for them, but I'm not 100% sure of that.

I love this deal. And perhaps there's still enough in the system to swing an Upton deal. (I can dream...)
