PTBNL also involved, meaning it is likely someone from the 2010 draft that is not eligible to be traded yet.

I bet it will Raunado or Workman.

OK DEBBIE DOWNER.

Might be Vitek though as the Padres almost drafted him in the top 10.

Anyone else we should sell at $5 per?

In all honesty, my guess is Vitek, as the Padres were going to take him at #9.

The interesting part about all of this, is that the major names in the Upton deal (Ellsbury, Iglesias, Bard) were untouched...

(EDIT) The PTBNL could not be from the 2010 draft unless the deal isn't finalized until December 12 (PTBNL must be filled within 6 months)

Not too bummed because I knew it was coming. Also can't expect the whole farm in return since essentially we're only trading him for a year.

Enjoy Adrain, I'm happy he will finally get the publicity he deserves. I won't be surprised if hitting in Fenway (and playing for the Sox) catapults him into superstar status. He's a great guy, think completely opposite of Manny.

Wow! Really didn't expect that by the time I woke up this would be just about a done deal.

Also very pleased if the story is accurate. Considering all reports had Kelly and Rizzo included....I was already expecting that. The fact that the other names people were speculating on were left out of the deal makes it seem even better at this point.

I think the above post is probably right on the SD end....they would have only had him for one more year. So the fact they did nab the #1 prospect from the system probably does make it a good deal for them as well....even though guys like Kalish and Iglesias were not included as well.
I did expect one major-league player.....or a guy who could move in right away (like Pimental or something) in the deal.

Won't be Raunado, he's only been signed by the club since August. You need to have been signed for at least 6 months to be named a PTBNL.

Sad day to be a Padres fan but the trade had to happen. The team wasn't going to pay him, and the Padres weren't going anywhere this season, might as well let Gonzo go to a team that will compete and pay him. Good to see he's going to place where people will recognize him and actually put a team around him.

Hate to see the SOX move Casey Kelly.

I guess he could be something in San Diego, but only until he is good enough to make any real money then thell move him too.

PTBNL could also be someone that is unable to be traded because they are eligible for the Rule 5 draft.
Or it simply is contingent on FA moves by the Sox.

Figure those are 2 other scenarios - other than it simply being a 10' draft guy.

Very happy with this trade. Rizzo had no place so he's an easy inclusion. Kelly was at minimum a year away, and 4/5 of the starting are locked up for multiple years. Fuentes was still a long ways away, and has both ellsbury and Kalish in front of him.

I still believe that Ellsbury and/or Scutaro will be dealt for RP help and the Sox sign Werth/Crawford.

This ends the Beltre talk in Boston, but Theo does it once again. Gets a fantastic season for very low money, and turns it into multiple high end draft picks

Re: Adrian Gonzalez Traded To The Red Sox

And are you glad he is out of the NL West?
