Any one of them could be the greatest hitter. Pujols is nowhere near the "greatest". He's good, but even considering him to be the greatest of all time? That's laughable to say the least.

To have designer drugs widely available, and bounds ahead of any detection mechanisms.

To have international talent pools readily available in every sport.

To have sports stars making more money than almost anyone else in society...resulting in children whose parents breed them from day one to be pro athletes...to far advanced training and betterment sports science & technology...to 6'8" and 240-pound NHL hockey players...to the difference in time (era) methodologies for relief pitchers being so vastly constrasted as to compare the words novelty and strategy...

To see a .334 career batting average today (Ted's was .344 against those guys).

To see a career OBS of .425 in the majors when scouts get excited over a kid in A ball that comes close to .400.

To visualize Albert Pujols, who faces these modern athletes every day, facing the sorry competition (not even African-Americans played) that existed in the major leagues during the 1940's-and-50's...indeed priceless.

It's no wonder why Tony LaRussa, who played in the 60's-and-70's labeled him, King Pujols.

Ichiro is a great hitter, I will give him that, but Pujols is just ungodly. Ichiro is a fantastic contact hitter, but Pujols is a fantastic contact hitter, a tremendous power hitter, and not to mention he has one of the best eyes in all of baseball.

as much as i hate to say it being a die hard AROD fan.....pujols is the best right now but like you said he does not compare to williams and cobb and so on.

The difference is body-type. Pujols is a more powerful player, therefore, has more powerful hits(HR's). If they continue at the pace they're at over the next five years, Ichiro will have more than 500 hits more than Pujols. Roughly 3390 vs. 2865. They both have great eyes. Ichiro's are dreamy. Good point, but Ichiro played in Japan for quite a few years before coming over to the US, while Pujols was very raw, just coming out of JuCo. If they continued at that pace for the next 5 years, that'd mean that they've both had 12 major league seasons. If you add 500 hits to Ichiro's resume over the span of his 12-year career in the MLB, that's about a difference of somewhere around 25 extra hits a year for Ichiro. I think that Pujols easily makes up for those 25 hits in other hitting skills that he possesses that makes him the best hitter in the game today.

Ichiro also gets a lot more at bats than pujols, and that argument is really tough to make because the one category that the contact hitter should win out in batting average ichiro is still a few points behind pujols career.

Babe Ruth is the greatest hitter ever, period. Ted Williams, Stan Musial, Ty Cobb, Rogers Hornsby, they are all better than Pujols (as of today).

Pujols is a better hitter and a better player than Manny is/was/will ever be. It is ok for someone to disagree with this and think Manny is a better hitter, just know you are wrong.
