Also, Mike Trout - the other great one has been 0-7 since joining the Angels. It's too early to see how this contract ends up, but most big contracts ends up being a horrible deal for the team and their fans. See Barry Zito and Aaron Rowand for the Giants in the past and Vernon Wells for the A's currently.

It's not just bad for Pujols in LA. Ervin Santana is 0-5.
Difference is Pujols is a top 10 hitter all time. Pujols has reached the pinnacle of the sport. Ervin Santana not so much, thus no one really cares what Ervin Santana does. lol

Not sure why Cardinal fans are really pissed at Albert, money talks. StL has always spent less money when they could spend more. With that said how would Cardinal Nation be feeling if Albert were in Red Bird Red, we would feel screwed and stuck with him for the term of the contract.

As a LONG time DIE HARD Cardinal fan I really wish that those slinging trash at Albert would just stop......you make us all look bad. He helped win two titles, take that and smile.

As a Twins fan, I've seen guys leave for more money elsewhere (Torii Hunter, Michael Cuddyer, even Gary Gaetti!) and we've traded away guys when we needed to lighten up the pocketbook (Johan Santana, Frank Viola) so a popular player leaving for more money is nothing new to me. As a Pujols fan, I was disappointed to see hin leave STL, but that's the way it goes. I'm not digging seeing him struggle so far, but could care less about the Angels as a team. But I'm also happy to see the Cards playing so well. (David Freese--who'da thunk it?) So I'm a little of this, a little of that, but in the big picture of things, I kept all my Pujols stuff because I'm a Cardinals fan, but I'm not going out of my way to get his new stuff, either.

I just want to say - in regards to him leaving for money - that baseball is a business for the Pros. That's why they are called "Pros"... as in - you know - "Professionals"? If I were busting my hump at a business - making them all types of money... knowing I was worth more... you bet your sweet little "UMAD" butt I'd jump ship in a minute. IT'S BUSINESS.

You're missing the point. All along Pujols put up some fake front about not caring about money, and then he pulls a 180 and signs with the Angels. That's fine if you want to sign with the team that gives you the best deal, but man up and admit to it.Don't say one thing, and do another.Sure, he got several extra million from the Angels, but it came with consequences. His family is still back in the "gutter" STL, who still go to school there.Personally, I'd take less to stay home and spend more time with family when the team you won 2 World Series offered you $200 million, but that's me.

At least when Wilson was introduced with Pujols he was honest about the Angels giving him the best deal and he could play where he grew up.There was no phony front.

The word for Pujols is USED to seem like a good guy. He is a money grubbing POS like a lot of players. Show a little dedication and loyalty to the team that took care of you along the way and made you who you are.

Pro ball is a job, not a group of friends you play weeklh pickup games. If you want to get mad at somebody, get mad at the employer who didn't offer enougb to keep him around. Wanting a job that pays more to give yoj and yohr family doesn't make you "a money grubbin POS", it makes you the normal average human being.

How many of us wouldn't take an offer for the same job we have now with a 25 percent raise elsewhere? I know I would. Sports fans take things too personally for too long.

Perhaps it wasn't ALL about the money and he would have stayed in St. Louis for less than what LA offered, but the Cards just lowballed him a bit too much.

Who knows what amount it would have taken to keep Pujols in St Louis, but he and his crazy wife shouldn't be surprised at the back lash when both of them go out and say to the media it isn't about the money and that he was disrespected by the team.

I'm not entirely surprised that he's not doing well.

1. He already was coming down from the peak of his career.
2. He's coming off an injury plagued season.
3. He's moving to the AL, which generally takes hitters a year to get established.

I'm not saying I think he's this bad, but I didn't expect him to put up gaudy numbers this season. He'll be fine. I bet he hits 30 HRs, and gets around .290 when the season is over.

That said, I do think he might bounce back, and have a big year next season.

I don't think they lowballed him, hell they offered him a 10 year deal when he's 32.That's a big risk for any team outside the Yankees, Red Sox, and Angels.Typical star athlete, he wanted to be paid on what he *used* to be, and not what he is today at 32.If Pujols is 27 there's no way the Cardinals let him walk away.

Heh, Angels score 9 runs last night and he still can't factor into the game.Oh well, he can become the Angels burden for the next decade. The STL is laughing their ass off all the way to the top of the NL Central while Pujols continues to hit .210.

I think it is funny that people change their opinions of someone as a human being bc they left a team for more money. There is no loyalty in sports, it is a business. Why should players show loyalty when teams show no loyalty?

 at people saying they saw this coming.

Like you really predicted Pujols would have 0 HR on May 3rd.

Its not that he left for money, that is no problem. It is that he repeatedly stated that it wasn't about the money. Guy just needs to come out and say "they payed me 30+ more mil more, how could i not take it". Not "God wanted me to play here" or some bs.

While i always enjoyed watching him play, i wasn't heartbroken to see him go, im loving watching the cardinals prove they weren't a one man team.

Exactly, I don't know how some on here keep missing the point. It's not about "loyalty" or "business", it's about saying one thing, and then doing the exact opposite.Playing the "God told me to sign with the Angels" card is really lame.Just state you wanted the best deal from the beginning.

Case in point, Molina says in spring training up front he's not taking less money to sign a new deal.OK, that's a little disappointing, but at least he's being honest about it.OK, cool.2 weeks later everything works itself out, both sides are happy with a realistic contract. No problem.

In related news, the Twins had as many hits last night as Pujols has homers on the season.

Really? They are? Seems like they are crying their asses off because Albert left. Case in point:

You're missing the point. All along Pujols put up some fake front about not caring about money, and then he pulls a 180 and signs with the Angels. That's fine if you want to sign with the team that gives you the best deal, but man up and admit to it.Don't say one thing, and do another.Sure, he got several extra million from the Angels, but it came with consequences. His family is still back in the "gutter" STL, who still go to school there.Personally, I'd take less to stay home and spend more time with family when the team you won 2 World Series offered you $200 million, but that's me.

Unlike most StL fans (I say most because George seems to be reasonable) Albert realized that he's probably not going to be able to play 1B for the next 10 years. He needed to be on a team who can play him at DH. The Cardinals cannot do that. It's not that difficult to understand. The Cards might have offered him more money than the Angels did, and he still may have moved to the AL.

I have payed for 90% of my Descalso collection with money from birthdays, christmas and busting my ass around my house, and neighborhood.

Well damn, I apologize. I realized I was actually kind of combining you and another member of the board. I mean, I thought two people were you. The other person had a Pujols in their sig for a long time, and somehow I thought he was you. My bad, my sincerest apologies. I have never noticed anybody hating on you! I think everybody likes you. I'm sorry for my post.

And yes nicktv08, I'm jealous that my dad never took me to games. I wasn't trying to be an internet tough guy though, just thought I was trying to help. lol.

Oh yeah... and you StL fans don't have it bad at all. The Indians fans are really used to this. We never keep a big name player, always trade them away while we can, before we lose them to free agency.

My favorite Indian, CC Sabathia, was way worse than Pujols. He never led us to any WS championships. He said money didn't matter, he just wanted to be happy and be near his family on the west coast, and play in the NL so he could hit. Then he signed with the Yankees for the largest contract ever for a pitcher. Just terrible. Of course, he had just finished being a Brewer when he did that. At the beginning of the year he said he didn't care about money, he just wanted to stay with the team he came up with. I still cheer for him though, even though it means cheering for my least favorite team every 5 games.
