One of my bigger maildays

1998 Donruss Signature Paul O'Neill Preview -- first one I've seen in 20 years. I imagine it was backdoored

PXL_20230307_004223835.jpg

2003 UD Exquisite Patrick Ewing Auto /100 -- One of my grails, wish I had bought one sooner. Glad to have one in the collection. Few of these have faded/smudged autographs, but this one is sharp. Picture doesn't do the foil finish justice.

PXL_20230307_004534829.PORTRAIT.jpg

1998 Leaf Rookies and Stars Orlando Hernandez RC Holographic Longevity Parallel 1/1 -- In my last post, I had posted the O'Neill/Soriano misprint rookie. Wanted a single El Duque rookie, searching eBay to get an idea of his prices, I stumbled upon this!! If it is a true holographic parallel, then it is a 1/1 rookie card from 1998!! Seeing older posts, other such cards had similar condition issues. Significant release, one of the first 1/1 Yankee rookies in existence!

I didn't want to let it go, figured I'd buy first and ask later. Front has condition issues, back has sharp corners and edges without creasing. Looks like it's a problem with overlaying the foiling technology.

Carlton. /25 Lefty.jpg

Oglivie. This is /86, which is somewhat SP for this issue, I think. Many are unnumbered. Oglivie.png

Lott. Signed on back and tiny, which sucks. Lott.jpg.

Kelly, which goes with the Magic/Kelly card I showed earlier. Kelly.jpg

Haywood. Wish it was a Sonics card though. Haywood.jpg

2023 Topps Black Paul Blackburn 16/72 and Gold Shea Langeliers RC 1316/2023. 2023 Topps 1988 Black Autograph Dennis Eckersley 85/99 and Real One (that I asked a question about in another thread) Langeliers 49/88. Also a couple of 2020 cards: Topps 1985 Matt Olson auto and Bowman Chrome Mega Box Robert Puason auto.

030723-2.jpg
The more interesting older stuff. 2010 Bowman Chrome Gold Refractor RC Josh Donaldson 06/50...I now have all FIVE of his 2010 Bowman Chrome Gold Refractors: Bowman Chrome base set, Bowman Chrome Prospect card (out of Bowman), Bowman Chrome Prospect card plus the autographed version (out of Bowman Chrome), and Bowman Chrome Draft. 1999 Paramount Opening Day Ryan Christenson 20/74 and 2012 Panini Cooperstown Crystal Lefty Grove 157/299 get me within one card of those team sets. 1941 Play Ball Johnny Babich goes well with the 1940 version I picked up the other day. 1999 SP Prospects Destination The Show Ramon Hernandez 058/100, tough to track down. 1972 Topps Denny McLain high number...still need a few more from that set.

I kind of rushed into this one. I saw he was in the HOF, but it was due to his college team being elected. I don't plan to collect the entire set, so I have an oddball one for the collection now. Pretty sure I saw the movie they made about this team.s-l1600.jpg

Some of you might have noticed I started a new collection - Bryce Harper refractors. Trying to stick to only inserts. Topps has some really well-designed cards but they aren’t rare so no one cares about them.

I needed a centerpiece and there are no unsigned versions of this one.

2004 Leaf Certified Mirror Gold Autograph Mark Mulder 15/25. 1999 UD Retro Gold Ben Grieve 052/250 completes the team set. 1998 Sports Illustrated Extra Edition Matt Stairs 196/250 gets me 2 away from that team set. 2001 Topps Chrome Retrofractor Kevin Appier also gets me within 2 of that team set, the only Topps Chrome base refractors I need between 1996 and 2019. It has a big ol' refractor line, a common issue with this set. I feel like that may be one reason some of the cards are so hard to find, people don't bother trying to sell the cheaper ones with a big refractor line.

2020 Archives 1990 Topps Rookies Sean Murphy - still need one Athletic from that set. 2023 Topps Black Seth Brown 44/72 and 1988 Autograph Shea Langeliers. 1972 Topps high number Diego Segui gets me 2 away from that team set. And 2006 Fleer Tradition Black and White Bobby Crosby gets me one away from that team set.

Tough one is incoming. This finishes the rainbow:
1998 Donruss Prized Collections Preferred Darin Erstad PP GS 736 /55

Dang those are tough! I only have one A's card from that set and I was lucky to grab that one.

Yesterday's mail highlights:

031023-1.jpg
The big one, 1997 Circa Rave Mark McGwire 086/150. That completes the 12-card team set! I also have the complete 1996 Rave team set and am 1 short for both 1998 (Rickey Henderson) and 1999 (a common - I have the Henderson).

031023-2.jpg
2004 UD Timeless Sal Bando '74 auto, I'm slowly completing that team set. A couple of Bowman Chrome Blue Refractors - 1998 Prospects Jesus Luzardo and 1999 RC Ramon Laureano. 1989 Key Foods Canseco/Van Slyke panel. That's the last late '80s/early '90s Canseco food issue from my wantlist...I'm sure there are several I don't have but that was the last one from my wantlist. Still have a few McGwires I'm chasing.

@Dilferules - Someone just listed a mess of them the other day on eBay. I was half asleep at 11pm trying to figure out if the one listed was the one I needed. Erstad has two in the /55 tier. I put in an offer and it was auto-accepted. About 25% off which was fair to me.

Thanks for the heads up! He had a couple of cheaper A's I needed, they were priced at $40 each, I offered $30 per and it was auto-accepted. Seems like a very fair price for this set, not a crazy steal but not a ripoff like some people try for on rare '90s stuff.

I have an illogical fandom for Josiah Gray. It harkens back to his days in the Dodger system as their top pitching prospect.

Even after shipping out to Washington, I still follow him and root for his success. He has nowhere to go but up after last year's mess.

Anyway, here are 2 arrivals this month that I absolutely love.

Hopefully he becomes a star. He made my collection as that Dodger prospect, but I don't believe he ever actually played for them. I'd have to look that up to be sure.
