Some card designs just beg for signatures. 1958 Topps is one, except that a lot of the original and reproductions since have the giant head shot. Mulder /27. Mulder.jpg

Needed a Raider card to go with the ND Classic and the Cowboys card I just go0t recently. s-l1600-1.jpg

I have seen a weird variety of signature types of this card. Makes me wonder if some are fakes or signed by someone else or he just changed his signature in the middle of signing all of them? s-l1600-2.jpg

Here are a couple on ebay now for comparison. s-l1600-3.jpgs-l1600-4.jpg

Another tough card knocked off the list:

1999 Aurora Red Darin Erstad

Oh man those are unicorns, I've never seen one for the team or players I collect. Great pickup.

The last few days of eBay mail, I also just got a COMC shipment so I'll get those up in the next few days:

031823-1.jpg
Some 2023 Topps goodies. The McGwire is 28/75, I like how the purple border looks with the purple name banner.

031823-2.jpg
Catching up on some 2022 Topps Black parallels.

031823-3.jpg
2000 Bowman Gold Chris Enochs 88/99 gets me one away from the TWENTY card team set. 2019 Topps Independence Day Blake Treinen 64/76 gets me 7 away from completing that set. And a 1999 Crown Royale Limited Series Ben Grieve 06/99 puts me one away for that one.

The highlights from my COMC shipment:

031923-01.jpg
Some super sweet stuff. 1999 UD Ionix Reciprocal Techno SP Ben Grieve 044/100 completes the 3-card team set; both of the other cards are /750. 2000 Stadium Club Chrome First Day Refractor Matt Stairs 10/25. 2000 E-X Essential Credentials Now & Future Adam Piatt 08/13 and 15/18. The 2000 Essential Credentials aren't as up there in price as the 1997-99 sets but I figure it's a matter of time so I grabbed these when they became available. There are only 3 A's in the set - I already have the Now & Future Tim Hudsons but I have neither of the Ben Grieves.

031923-02.jpg
2000 Topps MVP Promotion Kevin Appier, the first one of those I've found in over a year. 1998 Leaf Rookies & Stars True Blue Rickey Henderson (print run: 500) was surprisingly not the last card I needed for that team set, still one common out there. 1997 Pacific Invincible Sizzling Lumber McGwire. 2004 Bowman Heritage Mahogany Mark Kotsay 20/25, only my third card from that set. And 2000 Paramount Platinum Blue Miguel Tejada 01/67.

031923-03.jpg
Two more for my 1933 Goudey and 1939 Play Ball team sets. The Play Ball is Cotton Pippen...only need 2 more for that set.

031923-04.jpg
Some Refractors. The Matt Chapman 2017 Topps Chrome Update Refractor /250 used to be a really hot card but his stock has fallen a lot over the last few years. The Mark Canha 2015 Gold Refractor RC popped up for a surprisingly reasonable price and I grabbed it quickly.

031923-05.jpg
Some Topps flagship parallels. Still pretty far from completion on all of these sets.

031923-06.jpg
Some random stuff: 2004 UD Timeless Teams Gene Tenace auto, 2022 Pristine GU/auto Chapman, 2022 Topps Turn Back the Clock Henderson, and a 2019 Topps Cactus League Legends 150th parallel Henderson 121/150.

A bunch of team set completers:

031923-07.jpg
1997 Donruss Limited (this McGwire took years to track down), 2000 Topps Stars Metallic Blue (set has some /299 and some /99 cards), 2004 Leather & Lumber Silver/100, and 2002 Fleer Triple Crown RBI parallel (numbered to their 2001 RBI total...Damon is 02/49)

031923-08.jpg
2004 Bowman Chrome regular & Draft X-Fractors (regular are /147, Draft is /125), 2006 Topps Chrome Blue Refractors, and 2007 Finest Gold Refractors/50.

031923-09.jpg
2015 Bowman Chrome Purple Refractors/250 (including all series of Bowman Chrome w/Prospects & autos), 2012 Panini Cooperstown Crystal Collection/299, and 2015 and 2020 Panini Prizm Silver Prizms.

031923-10.jpg
2017 and 2020 Allen & Ginter Hot Box Silver, 2018 Allen & Ginter Mini Black, 2019 and 2020 Gypsy Queen Green, and 2020 Topps UK Big Ben/99.

Lots of Non-Sports stuff the last couple of days:

1937 Wills Famous British Authors - I bought the entire set but Wells and Milne are the two major cards. Aldous Huxley is also in the set.
37 HG Wells.jpg 23 AA Milne.jpg

1935 Gallaher Stars of Stage and Screen - My dad instilled a love of golden age cinema in me when I was a kid watching Errol Flynn, Basil Rathbone, and all their swashbuckling glory so I'm always looking out for period sets I don't have. This one includes early cards of Laurel and Hardy and Ginger Rogers.
9 Laurel and Hardy.jpg 14 Ginger Rodgers.jpg

1941 Lyons Maid Famous People - This is a great set loaded with notable people like Eisenhower, Churchill, Roosevelt, Picasso, and others but the star is Walt Disney.
42 Walt Disney.jpg

1934 Godfrey Phillips Film Stars - This set is loaded too. Hepburn, Wong, Dietrich, Cooper, Wray, Garbo, and others but it's the first appearance of Shirley Temple on a card that is the star.

Finally got around to scanning March pickups. Still a few to go, but progress!

First 2023 cards in:
2023Topps01BlackJoshRojas.jpg2023Topps01BlackKetelMarte.jpg2023Topps01BlackMerrillKelly.jpg

Working on the 2022 Finest Rainbow...kind of, too many parallels to really care but if I seem them cheap, I grab them.

Still loving 2022 Sapphire - definitely picking up all I can/would at least like to complete the team Gold rainbow...anything more is probably too ambitious.

Not usually big on prospects and paying $ for unproven players, but was a blast watching the young guys last year so why not.

I have this card, but would never be able to find it quickly. I had to go to ebay for one and the cheapest I could find one was $3.99 with free shipping! I am going to attempt to get it signed. I have a small collection of signed hobby notables and recently won an item off ebay from Michael Cramer's son and am trying to get him to sign a card too. So far, I have Kit Young, Alan Rosen and Rich Klen signed cards. If anyone is aware of any others that have actual issued cards and are obtainable, please let me know. I am not sure how far I would take this. I'd probably need to have heard of the person before buying a card/signature.

The late Sy Berger from Topps used to sign TTM so he shouldn't be too difficult to find. It looks like the ones currently available are kind of pricey, but if you are patient maybe one will pop up for auction and not cost a lot.

I do have his certified Archives card (and numerous Topps contracts, although I think some may be stamps or autopens possibly), now that you mention it! Sometimes it's easy to forget what I have.

I know this is a baseball forum and you'd think I was crazy for this guy, but the reality is ebay is an absolute overload these days. You couldn't possibly search for everything you might want, if you are someone like me who likes a little of everything. this is why card shops and shows are fun, because people just lay stuff out in hopes of catching your eye. Even looking through boxes can get tedious and ebay is an electronic version of that. I will often see cards that were not even close to my radar and buy them because I like them.

That being said, my new pick-ups reflect my current ebay searches and right now, they are weighted towards football and basketball HOFers and greats, but more specifically too are raiders and Vikings. Besides the Dodgers, I do no other team related searches.

So today brings a silver Franco /99. 99.jpg

Another Paul Krause /50. 50.jpg

Another Rod Woodson. /45 45.jpg

Simple signatures of the olden days can be a little scary, as this looks very easy to forge. Would someone do it? Perhaps, perhaps not. This is (hopefully) an authentic John Rauch signature, former Yankees/Eagles QB and Raiders (Bills too) head coach prior to the Madden era (66-68), AFC Champions of 1967 As usual, if I am out because it's questionable, it was cheap. Rauch died in 2008 at the age of 80. s-l1600.jpg
