Maybe the Phillies should have just traded for Halladay in the first place. They are probably giving up more in total now then if they would have 5 months ago.

Think of it this way: the Phil's still got the rental use out of Lee. How many t-shirts, jerseys, or tickets did Lee sell for Philly? They definitely got a great bang for their buck. Now, if they get Halladay, they get to reload the hype machine and get people to open their wallets all over again.

And Drabek would have been gone in that trade deadline and he's still a Phillie.

Amaro is the man.

Lee probably had to go because the Phils are running into salary issues.

If this is how it goes down, I'm happy as an M's fan. I like Moore, but I think he was destined to be more of a solid or a little above average and I've had my doubts about Triunfel for a while. We're only slated to get one year of Lee, but I think there's a good chance we resign him, since we had been looking into Lackey. Plus, seeing as he will have spent a year with the M's, pitching in that awesome park with that awesome defense, there's a decent shot at getting him a little below market. Plus he's already been traded twice recently, so he'd probably welcome being able to stay put for a while. Whereas Lackey was pretty much gone and had no ties to the M's. Also, this way, if we do extend Lee, we sign a top of the rotation starter, but don't have to surrender a #1 pick as compensation.

Well, now I'm reading the deal may be different, so it might not be as great as I thought.

i doubt it

I don't see a situation that ends up with philly having both Cliff Lee and Roy Halladay

also I don't see them giving up Brown

I still rather have Lee. Less injury prone.

wtf? Halladay is far from injury prone. A couple of freak accidents (broken shin, appendectomy) but other than that he has been incredibly durable; especially for someone who routinely leads the league in innings pitched.

If you expect him to actually give up a source, you're dreaming.

If thats the trade, I'm sick.

Giving up a pitcher who may perform just as well as halladay and then throwing an elite prospect on top of it is stupid.
Exactly.... The Phils should be giving up JA Happ and thats it. Maybe a mid-tier prospect or two but thats it. SEA should be giving up the bulk of the prospects since they are also getting a GREAT Pitcher but its coming from PHI. Why should PHI give up a CY Young pitcher and 2 top prospects. Philly should have just done this deal with TOR alone and keep Lee and try to be able to sign them both long-term. Bad deal for Philly unless SEA gives up the majority of the prospects
