Geez, I have to pick up someones shift at work and I miss one of the biggest trades of the decade.

It appears to be basically two trades and not a three way deal. The Phillies decided to trade off Lee for Halladay and by doing so keep a top 5 system(kind of).

I'm interested in the other prospects besides Gillies. I like Gillies but his numbers are very inflated, still a solid player.

Drabek, Taylor, and D'Arnaud would satisfy me. More than I expected, to be honest.

Way more then enough! The Jays are making out awesome here.

"10:12pm: Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun (via Twitter) has Toronto getting Kyle Drabek, Michael Taylor, and Travis D'Arnaud; Philly getting Roy Halladay and Philippe Aumont; and the Mariners getting Cliff Lee, plus another piece (or, pieces)."

That's the latest update.

I wonder how many different permutations of this deal will be gone through before the official word comes down.

I know.... I think it's because the teams are keeping quiet and it's alot of guessing by Rosenthal, Etc.

I know the Jays GM has limited the number of people in his "War Room" to keep out leaks....

I think the Phils will be getting too much if they get Halladay & Aumont + I would think a M's prospect is going to the Jays.

We shall see, I think alot more will be known tommorow around noon.

Someone talk me off the bridge I'm currently on. If we give up Drabek and d'Arnaud in this deal then my two largest phillies prospect stashes will have been flushed. It hurt with Carrasco and Marson, but my buyins were so low on them...Drabek...well that is a whole other story.

I don't see how the Phillies are gaining that much to gain Halladay for 3 years but lose Lee for one and Drabek for 6. I don't get the logic, and even if we get Aumont, he projects as a relief pitcher...what is Amaro doing? It really feels like he's trying to force this. How the he'll did Drabek go from untouchable to this? Does the club really think Ruiz is the catcher for the forseeable future? They've given up their two top catching prospects in consecutive trades. WTF is going on here? I've been sick for the last 30 hours, but this is not helping at all. I was down with the earlier iterations that had one of Brown or Taylor included, but Drabek, Taylor, and d'Arnaud??? C'mon Amaro this is too much to land your white whale.

Well, Halladay just locked up 2nd place for the 2010 NL Cy Young, I guess. I don't get this trade for the Phils, but whatever I guess. I'm with Jim, I don't see why they would move Drabek. I guess that's why I'm not a GM though.

I agree with you, if this deal stands. I am thinking/hoping there is a big piece missing here. If they were just going to trade Lee couldn't they trade him to someone else and get much more then Gillies and Aumont?

If that is what it is then I would start working Aumont out as a starter right away. He's very similar to Roy Halladay, with his size and stuff. It might take him a while but I think it will be worth it. I am concerned about his hip.

If it makes you feel any better Jim, there are rumors that the Phillies are very interested in signing Columbian catcher Jorge Alfaro for 1.25 million. He does look really good(1.85 pop time).

I almost fell out of my chair at work when I saw the story break. Some of the initial players mentioned (aumont, Taylor, d'Arnaud) were OK but not what I was hoping for. Drabek would be an awesome addition.

11:33pm: Rosenthal reports that the Phillies get $6MM from the Jays. Kyle Drabek, Michael Taylor and probably Travis D'Arnaud are headed to Toronto, Rosenthal says. Phillippe Aumont, Tyson Gillies and a third player are apparently headed to Philadelphia.

The Jays are almost surely getting Kyle Drabek! Taylor+ this is a huge move for the team..... they got big time return for Doc.

I wonder why the Phils didn't just give the Jays what they wanted in the summer (Drabek, Taylor +) they would have had him during the postseason.... and obviously wouldn't have had to give up the additional pieces for Lee.

So in turn it looks this way:

Phils Trade: Kyle Drabek, Michael Taylor, Travis D'Arnaud, Jason Knapp, Carlos Carrasco, Lou Marson, Jason Donald.

Phils Now Have: Roy Halladay, Ben Francisco, Phillippe Aumont, Tyson Gillies.

That seem like abit much? Could have been.....

Kyle Drabek, Michael Taylor, Carlos Carrasco + Another mid-tier Prospect For Halladay.

Either way I like it as a Jays fan ;).

Here are my thoughts as it looks like it's pretty settled.

basically two different trades, not a three way deal:

A: Do what you gotta do to get Halladay, as long as he signs for 3 more years. Giving up Drabek, Taylor and d'Arnaud sucks, but that's what a good farm is for.

B: No amount of quantity or quality of players the Mariners have that can beat this scenario:

Halladay
Lee
Hamels
Blanton
Happ

I understand the re-stocking the farm angle. And of course the $$ angle. I will say this. I've had season tickets since the Vet...tickets went up $2 this year (and $2 last year) My seats tickets are now $41.

The place sells out every game, and will this year. $12 parking, $7 beers, $4 dogs.....44,000 fans a game can really add up money wise. TV ratings are sky high. Merch is flying off shelves. Every Tom, Dick and Chahlie in the city is walking around in a phillies hat or shirt. And that's saying something as this is an Eagles town. The franchise is not poor. Not the yanks or Sox, but far far far from not being able to pay Lee's 8mill.

Suck it up for 09 and win another WS. The core of this team is in it's prime. Keep Lee for the season and basically set yourselves up for a three-peat appearance in the WS. Then, let Lee walk after this year (and after a march down Broad street) ;)

Talk about interesting timing.

For those interested, the Blue Jays' Top 10 goes live on BA's site tomorrow.

While it's obviously too early for their staff to rearrange it, I'd say the live afternoon chat just got a whole lot more interesting. I'll definitely be asking a few questions.

Keep us updated on what questions are being asked and what is being said thanks!!!

+1 interested in updates as well. Im a little disappointed that it looks like Aumont is not coming to T.O., but am getting very excited to hear that Drabek is almost for sure going to T.O. Not the biggest Jays fan, but since so many of their games are on TV up here, might as well have some great young players to watch.

All of a sudden Toronto has a whole **** load of young talent. Who are the top 3 teams with the best prospects now?

As a Jays fan, I think the Phils should give up whomever it takes.

I'm not sure of the Phils contract situations, but you can definitely pillage your system when your position players are young.

Do you really need Taylor and Brown when you have Werth and Victorino? Howard and Utley are set for af while.

No amount of prospects can match what Roy Halladay will do to Cole Hamels. Not only are you getting one of the best pitchers in baseball, but you're also getting a MAN. When it comes to quiet locker-room presences, it's basically Halladay or bust. The Phils are basically set when it comes to rah-rah guys, and Halladay should fit in seamlessly.

You just better hope that Halladay doesn't bring the secret Blue Jays CUTTER to town, because he's the only one that can throw it without his arm falling off. Everyone else ends up injured for a year or two.

I wonder if Aumont ends the year as the Phils' closer.

The Jays got a nice return on this trade but I don't understand how Philly are getting so much back in return. Now before everyone goes ...ya but we are giving up Drabek, Brown .Top Prospects .yada yada, it is already been established that to get Halladay you are going to have to make some sort of sacrifice via Prospects. I always believed you trade for any player that will make you win NOW opposed to probables (ie Prospects) that might help you later on. That being said, the Phillies are giving up three prospects for the best pitcher in baseball who has the track record to prove so plus in the NL Halladay numbers are going to be sick. In that Phillies lineup that means 17-20 wins barring injury compare to three prospects that won't contribute for a year or two. Plus you are getting a pitcher that is familiar with all the AL which is a bonus at World Series time. So they get to:
1) Upgrade to Halladay by trading Lee because they have made it known they can't keep both.
2) they are getting Aumont who is a top prospect so that eliminates one of the three they are sending plus might be getting another.
3) They are getting 6 Million towards Halladay Salary.

So basically they are upgrading their pitching, getting a discount on Halladay Salary and giving up top prospect that might never see the light of day in the Phillies organization. On the Jays side I think we did ok, on the Mariners side I have no idea why they are sending prospects to Philly. Maybe someone else can explain this to me because I can't see it.

As a jays fan, I am liking what I am hearing so far. It seems that Alex Anthopoulos is getting maximum value in return. After the JP years, thats all jays fans can ask for.

As a M's fan, I'm very excited to see Lee along side Felix.
As a Jays fan I'm sad to see Halladay go, but happy to see some players that can be what Wells, Rios, Hinske (who just keeps winning world series rings) were billed to be but were not.

And now Halladay can mow down a pitcher or 2 a game (3 if he keeps throwing complete games...thats a free inning for him!).
