Couldn't get this in the other post due to scan maximum. I am finally the owner of a Helmar custom card. I always considered this one of the top 3 customs I see frequently on ebay, but had never been able to win any. Finally nabbed one.

The other 2 customs I support are Banty Red and Sporting Life. All made to make the cards appear older and sometimes (often) a little worn. All three do great work and as long as you understand what you are purchasing, I recommend all 3 of them to make a great product. Don't think they will ever be worth a bundle, although all three can sell for a pretty penny at times. You buy these because you enjoy the art.

The Helmar are definitely great looking cards. I have bought a few over the years.

OK, I don't get this one. Garvey is in the Chrome set this year and 3 of the press proof autographs and the 1/1 have already hit ebay. The PPs have sold for $250+. One is still at auction and I think it's closing in on $400. The superfractor was close to $2K...FOR GARVEY! C'mon people. Who is paying that price and why? I get the weird excessive and deep love for Topps due to their history, but this seems a bit extreme. I'd say some of it would have been jealousy a few years back because i would have been priced out and really wanted them, but now I just shake my head and chuckle.

Even the base cards and parallels are going for stupid money. I somehow lucked out on this orange /25, but still feel like I overpaid. it was more like auto 1/1 pricing when i am competing with my biggest rival. I know the Garvey market and those buying these are most likely going to take a bath if they go to move them later, unless for some reason they hold their value better than 98% of the new stuff that comes out, spikes and settled back down each year. I buy for the fun still and know that my Garvey collection is going to bring me embarrassment when I try to sell it eventually, unless something crazy happens.

Sometime in the earlier ebay days, I came across an oddly sized Don Newcombe card with a blank back. I was not familiar. The seller advertised it as uncataloged and I fell for it. In fairness, they did have a lot of odd stuff listed frequently. I doubt it was too pricy, at least I hope not, even if the money is long gone.

Years later, I would discover that it was cut from a sheet that the Dodgers gave out on an Old timers game/Jersey Retirement Ceremony. The item is probably a bit thinner than a traditional trading card, but still thick enough to fool you. When cut out, most of them are square shaped, but they do kind of have a card-like appearance. In a stretch of imagination, one might accept that these are oddball cards, given that they do have a card-like appearance when cut individually. I may just sacrifice a sheet and make a set, since I just landed 14 of them, plus I already had a few from before.

All the new people in the hobby that are so willing to overpay, STOP! It's literally getting harder to find these Heritage as the serial numbers RISE!

Finally found a reasonably priced 76 Design. Eye still out for Red /76 and the B&W /25 version. It really is getting very close to pack it in time, as the fun is slowly draining out.

The normal Garvey stuff, nothing too exciting, but the AG bat card is new. Just took forever to get here. Look 'n' See is the /20 edition.

I continue to add weird, unlicensed Panini & Leaf Garvey Autos. More coming. Someday I will give it up.

Buehler. He has fallen since leaving the Dodgers. Makes it easier to pick up some items. Maybe they'll pick him back up again later. They are good at grabbing players multiple times. Sometimes 2-3 times across a career.

The Slugfest is an attractive design but I can't go for the jersey back in lieu of a player photo.

Agreed. I have come to terms with some really ugly cards being added to my collection due to copyrights and related reasons.

Couple items i am not all that excited for to pad my numbers a bit, not that I care about that either. I'll keep adding this kind of thing as long as it says in a cheaper range.

I need to figure out if these were counterfeited. They seemed to be issued in small quantities, so I either got a screaming deal or I got fooled. I have found a few at decent prices. Some sell for huge $. There are smaller versions, but these are the large ones that fit nicely in a 4 pocket page. Unsure exactly how they were all originally distributed and by who.

1981 Photo Packet. i believe the same one i bought as a kid on my first and only since visit to Dodger Stadium in 1981. I think they stopped making the photos not that long after, maybe 2 years. The later ones seem to be tougher to find. Perhaps people grew tired of buying them after 30 some odd years.

The Garvey train is about to run dry for a bit, but today was another good selection.

/15. Must have 5-6 of this one now. They keep popping up and I keep bidding (and winning them).

Grabbed another of these, because it was cheap. Not sure I had /25. Not going for everything in this issue, just a few here and there. Money grab idea, but I am a sucker.
