Tried something new, a mix between an ACEO and a custom, this is an actual 1978 Topps card painted on. Now some will call me a fool for buying this and honestly, maybe I am a little bit. Anyone can draw on a card. I have done a few myself, although not as nicely as this one. I have seen the person selling painted baseballs, now they are giving cards a shot.
I love the handpainted card and it reminds me of this:

Nothing super exciting for Garvey today, but a few more.

Bat /4, Chrome base is /25 and the Gold finest Au is /50. I stupidly mistook the chrome for the auto and overpaid. Glad it didn't go higher, because my bid sure did!

These come up so infrequently still, that I grabbed another. Garvey MSA Customized back disc

I swore I would not buy from COMC, and technically I did, but in a different way. I grabbed this redemption card via Ebay. In the past, I would have gone to COMC site, get it cheaper (cards are more on ebay if you didn't know this already) and put it in my port. Then ship it later and wait 3 months to get it!

Now, if I see singles I can't live without, they will just be single purchased and i'll just have to accept the R@PE of $4.99 standard trading card shipping with fake tracking! It arrives a few days later. Thanks COMC, you guys really know how to win friends and influence people.

I am surprised to see I won a Leaf Garvey 1/1 for 99 cents today. It was a base/parallel, so nothing extraordinary, but still a 1/1. I have to wonder if i will get it. We'll see.

Mail today brought one of these Topps gilded cards /25 and another Leaf Toast /5

Bat /15. I do enjoy various colors on cards when presented like this and not some sort of hard to see sliver that differentiate the cards. These would look good together with other versions. I know I have a couple, but probably not all and i won't chase them unless i get close to all of them. I am not really cataloging newer Garvey either, so not sure how many exist.

Dreyer is a new one off the list. Been a while since i scratched one. Had to wait out new buyer insanity and probably still overpaid. it'll probably be a $5 auto in 6 months.

Here is the 1/1 I won for $0.99. It's unlicensed Leaf base parallel, but is a true stamped 1/1 variation. Honestly figured I'd lose it to my rival, but he didn't bid. I actually felt a bit sorry for the seller when I opened and saw it, but huge shoutout for being a solid ebay seller who follows through even when they didn't get the price they expected. Sadly, that is becoming more rare by the day. The hobby seems to be being taken over by fly by night hucksters trying to make a buck and reputation be damned. If they don't get their price, the either ghost, gouge with shipping or say it was lost. Hopefully it's just a phase that fades with time.

Machado from the 2018 Brooklyn collection. I really liked these when i first saw them. Most of them are very expensive, but I sneak 1-2 now and again. Machado of course played briefly with the dodgers, so I will showcase it here.

Likewise, Crime Dog did a short stint in LA, so this rookie era lot is showcased here. Got it for the ProCards & TCMA minor league cards, but an overall nice lot of early cards from the now HOFer.

Another batch of Garvey leads the pack, of course...

A couple 70s/80s magazine "poster" autographs. These take me back to being a kid and buying magazines and seeing a few full page color pictures of the big stars, hoping Garvey would be featured.

This could be a new Dodger add this year, but it could also be like a Danny Duffy case. Dodgers picked Duffy up in 2021 and he sat on injured list until they got rid of him via free agency in 2022 after having never played a game for the Dodgers, nor would he ever for any team again. I am not saying Cousins is done, but he is now on the Dodgers 40 man on the 60 Day DL. At 31, he may in fact be done. They way they churn through pitchers, it would not surprise me if he never actually plays for them. Hoping to be wrong and prepared if I am.

Newer Heritage cards getting harder to find than old sets. saw this one with BO/BIN, but didn't hesitate to just pay the full price. I didn't have one and it's #6/25.

Also can't seem to win the /50s, but I can win the /10 & /25 gildeds. This is another version /25 to go with the ones i already had.

Pre-Production Proof. Leaf is just spitting these out like they are 1/box inserts from the 90s.

Lets spend a brief moment talking about these pieces of crap. Leaf Bat card /25. This is the relic version of the UD Signature series where the card was just a bunch of sticker autographs with no photos. This is pathetic and I can only blame myself for partaking despite the lameness of these cards. I have cut back a lot on buying these, often just getting one of each design instead of chasing the multi-level parallel layers that were mostly numbered from 1-25 copies, with damn near every number in between represented at times. At least use a player image. If you can't because of licensing, do better and make a different card!
Screen Shot 2026-04-10 at 3.19.24 PM.png

This is my favorite Kellogg's design and these look surprisingly half way decent when signed, despite the facsimile.
Hooton.png

Furcal Archives /25. Had it already, but when the Fan faves /25 are cheap, I'll bite every time.
Furcal 25.png

A trio of Tommy John Donruss Recollections. The guy is on the end of the downward slope of life's hill and he is now charging $50 a pop for TTM autographs, so these are a bargain! Numbered /31 (1984), /25 (1985) and /50 (1988). John never had a Dodgers Donruss card unfortunately, but he is featured on several other teams on them late in his career that may still someday get the HOF nod. Pretty sure he is the winningest pitcher not there already. 26 years, with more than half coming after the surgery that now bears his name. He could be called a stat collector, never really dominant, still he won 20 games 3 times in his career and Cy Young runner up twice as well. All came after the surgery. 3 of his 4 AS appearances were also post surgery. Most players don't have the stamina to have a long career, so there is something to be said about being able to hand on for 26 years at the MLB level.

1/1 with Cey & Russell. Now why didn't they just add lopes and make this an epic card? Guessing no Lopes signatures to be had. Too bad, missed opportunity.

I was being very patient with this one, well, maybe impatient but cheap is the better way to describe it. All of the copies on ebay were $100+. Then he made the HOF and figured my chance was gone, but eventually someone listed one for a BIN price I really liked, $30! This card was the Emerald Autograph redemption promotion that Fleer/Skybox did with Metal, Circa and EX in 1997. The 6 subjects each had 3 different emerald autographs across the three products, but the only was to get the jones was to find all 10 of the numbered redemption cards. I am slowly trying to complete the entire set with the unused redemption cards. This card isn't marked in anyway except for the numbering on back. It would be an easy card to fake, so I am cautious in that way. Sucks that fraud always has to be at the front of our collecting efforts.

Already added Cousins, in case he makes it off the injured list and actually plays a game with the Dodgers, but had to add this one, as it would have been my first choice. Plus is was super cheap too! only thing better would be a red signature version. This is very reminiscent of the 70s action shots that the originals featured.
Cousins Heritage au.png

Thought this was lost in the mail, but it finally made it. Voided Virginia lottery tickets. These players were also featured on autographed cards, similar to Nabisco or the other various food and drink autographed issues of around the same time. I consider them "certified" but I really don't know how they were distributed originally. Some of the cards I have do have a small paper COI. Thought it would be fun to have the tickets to go with the autographed cards.

Chrome orange /25. Funny how i have 2 of these, but can't seem to win the higher print run /50 version. People have some weird bidding habits these days.
Garvey chrome orange 25.png

Won this from COMC. I said i would not buy from them again and i meant it, through their site. It pains me some, because i could have paid less for the card, but they know what they did to lose my business. i'll just pretend this is job blow seller and pay the regular asking price and bloated shipping, like I do everywhere else. I only bought it because it was cheap enough AND it was #6/8. I actually debated for a few, deciding if I really wanted to buy it. Yes, it's gotten that apathetic with regard to new Garvey cards, especially made by Leaf. In the end, I clicked BIN and with the money spent, I guess no regrets.
