This may have been brought up, but there's no way in hell I'd dabble in any kind of WSOP redemption.

Disclaimers aren't enough. Topps pushed the legal envelope by including "They're Money" cards and Razor is literally, walking a razor-thin line.

Putting a disclaimer and advising shop owners not to sell to minors isn't enough. This honestly just screams, "Biggest Logistical Headache Ever".

It's an awesome idea, but it really just takes one kid -- he doesn't even have to win a ticket, he just has to open a single pack -- and a set of angry parents for lawyers and it's huge trouble.

We have run it by legal. There is no specific consideration for the entry. Seats (a minimum of 1, more if not all redemptions are redeemed) will be available through a No Purchase necessary offer. After that, it is a luck of the toss equivalent to a free throw shooting contest at a lakers game where the winner gets $10k!.... Or, when a trading card comapnay gives away a world series trip or dinner with Lebron.

Redemptions have no cash value (nor do we imply any cash value for these cards). They merely represent a seat at a private, free invitational tournament. The winner of the free tournament gets an entry as a gift from us.

You WILL NOT need a lottery license any more than you need one for selling a box of exquisite bkb where you have a chance of pulling a $25,000 card or a 2.00 card. Theorretically, one kid complaining they spent $500 on a box and ended up with $100 worth of cards could trigger the same legal question. This has been tested before and we are completely confident in its soundness.

There will be prominent legal disclaimers and statements/explanations on all packaging and I would not be surprised if a NOT FOR SALE TO MINORS ends up on the package in a prominent way. Ill leave this to the lawyers.

I've been a fan of the poker players since before the fad. I like all kinds of things that are a bit off. If they did a winter olympic set, hell i'd like that. No idea why but I would.

That's great -- I'm not trying to bust your balls or anything, I just wanted to make sure you had everything covered. The CASH or "They're Money" cards that you and I both mentioned are a horrible reference point. Just because Topps didn't get sued doesn't mean that you won't get sued.

From a legal standpoint (wait, wasn't it you that said never to give away free advice? hah) you'll basically have to live and die by the precedent established by Topps and UD in the case of a few years ago. That being: The Consumer Pays for Cards, and Gets Cards. Nothing More, and Nothing Less. Thrown in an NPN to cover your bases in some of the weird-states, exclude quebec, and you're good to go.

When you start giving away prizes via redemptions that are exclusive in some manner, that's when you start getting in trouble. I think the Poker Sites even run their contests or "sweepstakes" from one of the Caribbean Islands. I think brick & mortar casino's give it away under their lottery license.

From what I remember, It's Arizona, Florida and Ontario that're the weird states when it comes to contest law/sweepstakes law. I think Texas is amongst the best, so you may have lucked-out there.

I'm sure you can swing it, and who knows -- maybe cases being shipped with a release form builds some hype.

SIDE BET: I'll bet you the cost of the forms (1200 in Ontario) that If I file a claim against topps for illegal lottery on "They're Money" cards, they'll be reprimanded.
