It's hard to understand if you aren't a part of either team's fan base. It's like the Red Sox are a part of the Boston fan base family, and the Yankees have their own. We can make fun of our own team and say Ortiz used or Papelbon has been mediocre this year, but when someone outside the family says it then they're fighting words. The Yankees' fans can say Arod can't hit in the clutch and Jeter's defense has fallen off, but someone outside their group better not say it.
