Maybe aside the Pujols Chrome auto what do you think the next T206 Honus Wagner will be. Or maybe along the lines of the Mantle RC. Discuss.

My opinion is that there will never be any card like the Wagner again. Pujols and Mantle don't come close to that card.

I really don't think there can be another card like that. The circumstances surrounding the card
and the exact incidences of hype, etc. that took place could not be duplicated again. What you
could buy copies of that card for 20-30 years ago is mind-blowing.

There are, what, 100 known copies in existance? There are MUCH more rare cards from around
that same time and before, but they don't get 1/100th the recognition of the Wagner.

.....I can say I am quite busy work-wise (only popping in here whenever I have a brief break in the action) and my collecting has been very slow of late.

Bet things pick up as the year progresses and as we get closer to Spring Training and the 2010 season.

How goes it?

it goes George. I am heading out to the post office to mail something to one of our fellow MT'ers and then to do some grocery shopping. how about you?

Back to doing research. The boss gave me good news yesterday so I am still pumped about that.

hey guys how is everyone doing....

I have been reading all the McGwire/Maddux news lately and I am not even going to share my thoughts on the McGwire/Steroids talk, I dont think a lot of people find my opinion on the matter very popular...

I do want to say one thing about the Cubs though....and this is coming from a die hard Cardinal fan with nothing but pure hatred towards the Cubs ;) but I am somewhat impressed with them promoting Sandberg to Triple A Iowa and bringing in Maddux for Player Development....2 very good moves, and what do you guys think of the Sandberg move?? possible grooming of a new Cub Manager in a few years???

I also wanted to show off 2 new pickups...I have been getting killed on most of the stuff I have been trying to pick up, Halladay LOGO Patch, Lou Brock Patch AUTO, and a couple other nicer Musials, but I did land these 2......

Does that look like a Button hole to anyone else??? And does it looked creased at the bottom of the jersey---kind of worried about that, but we will see when it comes in.

Boss, not wife Boss

Here was the email:

Hello George,

I regret that I didn't have time to get together with you, Kati, and Annelise during the conference. I was booked pretty solid, and spent the couple of evenings taking Vlach and his wife out to dinner at the resort.

I attended the earlier of your two talks. Excellent work! I particularly appreciate your commitment to speak to the subjects rather than read from a script. That's is a lot of work to prepare, particularly when they only give you 15 minutes within which to convey the analysis. I noted that you appear to have developed a following already. Just before you spoke, around 8-10 new folks entered the room just to hear your talk, and then another half dozen on top of that joined them in leaving that session after you had finished. You're certainly living up to the Urbana mantra that we perform with excellence.

I also ran into Luke Pecoro at the conference, a grad student at BU and one of the Time Team excavation team in 2008. He's an assistant editor for the Journal of Field Archaeology, which is published out of BU and has been picked up by a larger-scale publishing group on the production side. It is a well-respected peer-review journal, and they are on-time in reviewing and publishing articles and actively seeking new content. As you can tell from the journal title, they have often focused on articles with a methods theme to them. I described you sourcing and GIS work on Edgefield and he was very interested to solicit an article manuscript from you. The journal's production quality is very good too, with semi-gloss paper that conveys images and stats tables well. I recommend you follow up as promptly as possible and send them an article version of your papers.

Talk to you soon,
Chris

That's awesome George! Congrats! I'm guessing BU is Boston University.

TK - Beautiful cards bud! I think the anomaly on the Musial is a wrinkle from glueing the fabric to the card.

I have a couple like that.

chas---that is what I thought too, but the more I keep looking at it the more it looks like it is a button hole and the card is creased, lol, so me thinks my eyes are just playing tricks on me.....I figured it would go way more than it did, so really either way I am happy, as long as the card really isnt creased that is.

BU is indeed Boston University. They are the only University in America with a dedicated undergraduate Archaeology program, they are quite a big deal and so is the journal. No worries, my submission only needs to be 40 pages, of which I have 15

Sorry, I know nothing about Archaeology other than I know what it is.....so, what you are saying is you need to come up with 25 pages of Fluff...
