Nolan Ryan...'nuff said. :D

Actually it's not. He only had a .526 win%, is the all time leader in walks with 2,795, had a WHIP of 1.247, and an ERA+ of 111.

Ryan was a great pitcher, but isn't even in the top five all time.

career season averages. .314 41 HR 133 RBI

I think there might be 2 or 3 other players that have better career average season stats.
he's in, but no where near the top.

look at his numbers. who is ahead of him??? im not taking fielding into account. Im talking soley on hitting.[/quote:3lmi0j5q]
Babe Ruth, Jimmie Foxx, Hank Greenberg off the top of my head

hitting is only half of baseball. he wouldn't make the All-Time team roster. not even close.

In that case, I say my boy Greg Gagne makes the list. I'm not taking hitting or fielding into account, I'm talking solely on playing shortstop for Twins teams that have won the World Series. :P

Who is in the HOF ahead of Manny? 289 people so far and counting. This is a discussion about people who are in the HOF.

And when compiling a list of the greatest players ever, sorry, you're going to have to take fielding into account.

Also I would like to apologize on behalf of Nolan Ryan for having such a low winning percentage. I'm sure he feels guilty for not putting together better teams to support him.

Perhaps if he didn't put so many people on base he'd have a better win percentage.

He's still a Hall of Famer, but this belief that he is the best pitcher ever ignores the facts in order to focus solely on his Ks and no hitters.

Thank you, I didn't want to have to be the one to say it lol.

And why are people naming non-HOFers????

You guys can take all your HR hitters that you want. Runners in scoring position, 2 out....I'd take Rose or Gwynn before hundreds of other players....before some that were named on this thread.

go for more, man. fill in the gaps.

as far as current HOFs only, i don't know. Maddux WILL be a Top Tier guy. and i think he should be on this list as well. so that is personal preference as much as anything else.

Don't even try this...I will name 3 top tier hitters [IMO] that I will take above Rose.

Paul Waner:

Tris Speaker:

Ed Delehanty:

I can name more but I believe those to be top tier hitter, all much better than Rose. Maybe if Rose had a higher career batting average, or got more RBI's or something...sure he the all time hit king but he is nowhere near as good as some of the other [non power] hitters mentioned in this thread.

Re: Top Tier HOF...the Greatest of the Great

The only tier 1 HOF this schmuck will ever make is the all time loser HOF. This person disrespects the game and pisses on its history in every way and still fans defend his actions????. He isn’t even the best hitter in the game today; that honor goes to Mr. Pujols. He is an abomination in every way. I would love to see him against Bob Gibson. Gibby would hit him in the face with a fast ball if he tried that posing crap after a homer. This “Manny being Manny” and “That’s the way the game is played now” crap makes me want to vomit.

Jackie Robinson doesn’t deserve to be in the first tier. His contribution to the game is immeasurable but this does not afford him the honor of being known as one of the 25 greatest.

I'd take Rose over Delehanty and Waner any day. Speaker...not so much.
