I don't know that being one of 10 1B who hits 40-50 HR is better than being the one of maybe two or three catchers with that capability. Piazza will likely go down as the best hitting catcher of all time. As a first baseman he would still be a memorable player but would not be anywhere near the top of the list of all time first baseman.
Not the point. Do you really think Piazza's peak card value was heavily tied to him being a catcher? I'd say no. I'd say people were buying a player capable of winning the Triple Crown. If not for playing catcher, he would have had even greater numbers, which very well could have resulted in higher prices.
