Hey I'm 27, I have college education, and I live on my own! Children one day I hope. My girlfriend is too young and doesn't think about that.

But I took someone's advice and started a new thread.

Once I reach 20,000 posts, I'll be starting up my annual draft contest for the prospectors here (or anyone else, for that matter). The prizes will knock your socks off this year.

There are just too darn many things that are not obvious in their utility and I just do not want to have to be taught.

That's the spirit! If you would like me to personally not teach you anything, just LMK, I'm always available for that kind of stuff. I think the problem is things are OVERLY easy on this board. For example, I see lots of complaints about inserting pics into threads... I use IE at work and Chrome at home, and I've found an awesome trick. You go to pic you want to use, be it a photobucket pic or just a pic you found in a google search. You right click on that and hit "copy" just "copy" not "copy shortcut" or whatever. Then you go to the thread, and you put the cursor where you want the pic, and you hit Ctrl+V (or whatever, paste it.) Bam. Insta picture. No uploading from PC, no making tags, just good old cut and paste. If you do iTunes and like to add missing pics to albums, you can do this trick in there as well. The one problem I do have, sometimes when I paste a pic in quick reply, it will not let me get to the other side of the pic to post more stuff. The pic is the end unless I hit "go advanced"...
I just miss the old site - badly... For instance, on the old site, if I wanted to PM the poster, just click PM. But now???
I am lost most of the time. (personal problem, I know.)
You just have to navigate and figure this stuff out, it's not that hard. If you are in a thread and you click on a poster's name (I know you instinctively don't want to do that thinking it takes you to another page, I'm right there with you) it drops down a handy menu that allows you to do all kinds of great stuff, like send a PM. Took me a minute to figure out...
On two different occasions, I tried to start a new thread that I had spent 30-45 minutes typing only to have it disappear when I dragged a picture into the thread. And even though it says it is "auto saved" every 30 seconds or so, when I tried to recover the thread, all that remained was the title. It makes me quite hesitant to start a new thread, because I now have to copy the thread myself every so often, or I risk the thread getting deleted before I can post it.
This is funny, I have not had this problem at all. On the OLD site, I would type out a whole post, click reply, and it would just bring back an empty reply field. I'm in the habit of copying and pasting my stuff before I hit reply because I lost so many posts that way. You might try writing your big long OPs in a Word document (or whatever) and just pasting it here when you're done. I wouldn't want to start living without your informative statistical threads- that would suck!
Chris, whenever I post in a thread (using quick reply) and I put a smiley in my post...when I submit the post the smiley stays in the quick reply box so when I go back to the forum I always get a popup asking if I want to leave the page. Very annoying....any possible fix for this? Surely I can't be the only one this happens to...
I get this all the time. Right now for example. What I do when surfing a thread like this, if I see something I want to reply to I open the "reply with quote" into a new tab. At the end I go cut the quote out leaving an empty box, and paste the quote into the reply I’m making. It won't let me close that tab with an empty reply field unless I click the popup. "Are you sure you want to navigate away from this page?" No smileys involved...
I find the new site better, all except the quote feature. Sucks only being able to quote one reply. I find this is destroying long convos.
I am having problems with this myself. I know there is that "+ button, I just don't know how it works. I don't get it. I cope though!
I don't mind the new look, but man I hate that bar that stays at the top of the screen.
I don't understand people's issue with this. Maybe it's because I've been surfing the right sites for a while now. One of my favorites is space.com, and about 6 months ago they started using a floating bar. Theirs isn't really useful, it's spammy, it wants you to like them on facebook and follow them on Twitter or sign up for their newsletter. That's it, your only options. And that thing follows you all around the website no matter where you go. Annoying, but I'm used to it. When I signed up for a book related message board, I was delighted to see that their floating bar, like ours, actually has useful stuff. You don't have to go all the way to the top to find the "Vew My Posts" link, it follows you around. I like it.
So 2 tears and a bucket I guess
Sigh. It's two tears IN a bucket. If you're going to mope and cry, at least get it right. Jeez. :D

The "crackdown" on train-wreck posts and flame wars has hurt things. That's what generates traffic to most of these sites.

I haven't noticed any crackdown, but... I hang out in the General forum a lot. Still lots of trainwrecks and flame wars! And sarcasm!!!

I have noticed the decreased in traffic, it's kind of sad. I tried to keep things going in the General area, but I'm all out of steam. They cracked down on my usage of sarcasm. Sniffle. Damn them.

Not sure if this is what you mean or not, but next to the Reply With Quote there is a little quotation marks icon with a + sign next to it. You can go through a thread and hit that button to quote multiple posts through the thread.

No, he meant this type of quote...

I really like the way that quoting used to be!

I think that this quoting style is the best!

It really keeps the conversation moving!

It works like this in Private Messages, so I would assume that it could work in here too.

I truly think that the type of quoting we have on here now is a conversation killer. It's my #1 complaint about the new forums.

I agree with the above sentiment. If you're tired of any inactivity, then start something! This board is only as good as its members. Start a dialogue about something you care about.....

Point taken.

I don't like those kind of quotes any way. People severely overuse them and a thread looks like ****. I hate when I have to scroll for an eternity because someone quoted a dozen quotes or more. It's excessive. If you want to quote someone more than once, simply use the mutli-quote. You can quote yourself with it as well.

Lance, is that what you meant? Go through and hit the Multi-Quote This Message icon and then click on Reply With Quote after you have selected all of the messages you want to quote.

Not sure if this is what you mean or not, but next to the Reply With Quote there is a little quotation marks icon with a + sign next to it. You can go through a thread and hit that button to quote multiple posts through the thread.

But you always pulled the cards I wanted! You need to keep breaking...so you can sell to me :)

I don't post as much anymore. A: the site feels too much like blowout to me now, and B: not as interested in the hobby. No products out there for me anymore.

Test.

My only complaint with the new board is that I can't add my player lists to my signature. Every time I try to add a list, I get error messages saying there is too much text, and when I trim it down, I get a similar message with a smaller character limit.

And my problem with the site is SAM BANKS is not posting and needs to get back on here ASAP.

You know exactly where Sam is and why he is not here......hit him up, tell him to buy some nice ear rings, and get back here to do his thang.

I STILL can't log in from my work computer. I log in, get the "redirecting" screen saying "thanks for logging in" yet then it refreshes me back to the sign in screen and I am still not signed in. My home computer will let me sign in, but won't keep me logged in. Don't mind using the app but typing anything substantial on my iPhone drives me to the brink.

When you start a thread and want to edit a title, go to the very first post that you made in the thread. Click the Edit button and then click Advanced, or Go Advanced, whichever it is.

From there, you can edit the original post and the original thread title.

This has never worked for me, and I used those exact steps.
