This should get the ball rolling and give some good discussion and opinions. On stats alone, not team wins, no pitchers allowed, who actually deserves the NL MVP in 2012. Andrew McCutchen, Ryan Braun, or Mike Trout (yes that was a joke, because the way he has played he should be the overall MVP)

As I see it here by the current stats, The stats other than average are very similar. Even though I figure Cutch will win it and rightfully so, I do think Brauns status are MVP caliber, especially without Prince.

If we are talking numbers alone, I suppose you could base it on WAR:
Andrew McCutchen 6.3
David Wright 6.1
Ryan Braun 5.9
Michael Bourn 5.8
Jason Heyward 5.7
Buster Posey 5.2

I think it's McCutchen's to lose at this point, especially with the Pirates in contention.

McCutchen. I would say it's close, but I imagine the voting won't be. I would be surprised if there are 10 1st place votes that don't go McCutchen's way.

Average is sexy, a winning team with a good story is sexy, and McCutchen's other numbers are just as sexy as Braun's. Maybe if Braun started racking up the steals and somehow ended up 40/40, the he could overcome McCutchen's hype (derserved); but that ain't gonna happen.

McCutchen's average is falling quickly. It will be around .330 by the end of the season, unless he kicks it back into gear.

It wouldn't be the MVP then. It would be the Hank Aaron award. Or silver slugger. Or whatever award it is just solely for the best hitter.

I voted for McCutchen, He wasn't linked to PEDs as Brauny was..

How many of the real voters will think the same?

Oh yeah baby, I want you to "raise my batting average" a few points if you know what I mean ;)

Johnny Cueto won't win but should get votes. He's third overall in NL WAR according to baseball-reference.com (Cutch, DWright).

My vote is for Cutch at this point.

This link to PED statement is garbage. What does that have to do with anything. If people thought he was juicing last year when he won the MVP it should be even more impressive that Braun is putting up the numbers he is this year without PEDs and without the "protection" of Prince.

If I had a vote this would unfortunately be in the back of my mind, and I'd be lying if it didn't come into play as part of my decision.

It means that Braun thought he couldn't get caught once. In my mind he would do anything to get an edge. It's possible he is on something that any doping agency isn't even aware of. Desperate people do desperate things, like challenge the MLBs drug policy.

By stats alone it seems to be a dead heat. Braun has 10 more homers which is pretty significant while McCutchen has 30 points in OBP which is pretty significant. Some of the advanced metrics that take ballpark into effect have McCutchen ahead, but Braun is more efficient on the base paths (20/26 in SB while McCutchen is a poor 15/24). Defensively you need to give the CF the edge.

If I had to bet, I'd put my money on Braun since he has been great pretty much his entire career, while this is the first time McCutchen has performed at this level and he's cooled off the last 4 weeks (.281/.375/.398 with 2 HR and 1 for 3 in SB).

Then again Kemp had better stats than Braun last year and lost because of the Brewers playoff run, so the Pirates superstar that leads them to the playoffs for the first time in decades(?) will get a lot of weight put on it.

Please, please, please. People who are wrongfully accused need redemption and 2012 has been it for Brauny.
