I am still just flabbergasted. ::shakes head::

For all those of you saying they have a gov't job, get paid well, blah, blah. The average
letter carrier makes about $44,000 a year, with the majority of them being in the $38,000-39,000
range. While that may sound like a lot to some of you still in college, its not enough to support
a family where I live.

The P.O. has also had MASSIVE layoffs this year, reducing their workforce by 1,000s. So,
essentially, each remaining postal employee is doing 2 or 3 people's jobs. I mean, my local
P.O. is now staffed by exactly 1 person, and she busts her ass. But I'm sure you
don't believe me, because you've been led to believe that its a cushy gov't job.

I've made around $75K this year, down from $90K last year(self-employed, that is pre-tax & expenses)...if I could get a job driving a jeep around 6 days a week on a standard mail route and make $44K; I would take the job tomorrow!!!!!!!!

And I would not expect a tip in any way, shape, or form.

Do you want to know how much your carrier makes?

Thanks. Next time the one lady is ****** working the counter I'll let he know she should be happy making 52K+ a year standing there crushing my bubble mailers.

Thanks for another point...I'd much rather tip the actual workers at the post office that have treated me like an angel every time I've come through with about 30 packages for the last decade.

They litterally say just 1 or just (however many) now since I don't manage the shop any more.

They would tell me to put my money away if I tried to tip them.

It reminds me when I used to get paid to work security at a Golf course...they paid me....gave me money...good money...to drive around, all over the place, in a golf cart, all night long with no boss and nothing to do...as a college student.

paid me

Hey kids, keep in mind that $44k avg. is PRE-TAX. So they are taking home about $32,000.

Raise a family on that.

I don't know what the income taxes are like in the Obama state, but I really don't think MO pays that %.

I paid 23% last year and that included interest and penalties.

A vast majority of families have 2 incomes.

32k includes part time workers.

The pay isn't the same in NYC as it is in Goodland Kansas.

We could make it on under 32k w/ house payment, all bills paid, etc. House is 5 years old and a 2000 sq ft.

Everyone doesn't deserve a tip for merely doing their job. That's what is called a salary.

My wife makes close to $40K and paid taxes all year...I forgot about that.

BTW, do you live in Goodland? I'm in that area 4 times a year.

This year should be better, my 10 month old was born in FEB and I'll have a full year of house deductions...plus my self-employment deductions.

The only thing that bothers me is the penalties and interest on the money I didn't pay in estimates....if the IRS owes you they don't pay you interest.

I agree. Good faith estimates should stand.

My mail carrier makes 53,000 a year. I don't tip because he always damages my mail, and probably would tip him a little if he managed to do it right on a consistent basis.

One mailman alone makes higher than the avg household income in the entire state of PA, and we're in a smaller depressed area, so it's well over.

To expect that they get a tip is unbelievable.

My family managed to raise a family at around that salary, where my father was scheduled 60 hours a week managing a franchise store, where he often ended up working 6 or 7 days (skipping his days off), and pulling 10-12 hour shifts. I wish he could have been a mailman...

My mailman got a $25 gift card from Tim Hortons coffee shop yesterday from me. He was VERY surprised, he said i was the first person to give him a gift this year and was very thankful for it.
