You know -- some of the talk in this thread is exactly why there shouldn't be a "Museum".
Maybe the people that participate in their regular "Official" threads could have their own Museums contained within. I think a Museum would give people an air of entitlement.

I can see it already:

"My card in the museum is way better."

That, along with 500 "Does this belong in the museum" threads.

I vote no to the card, but I also vote no to the museum.
How would it be any different from the Beckett MB "Hall of Fame"?
Yet, when a HoF was mentioned here everyone agreed it was no good. Cool cards are fun to look at, but isn't that what sigs are for? Photobucket links?
I think a "Museum" is just a good way to get people into arguments.

I hear what you are saying, but you are in the minority of who voted for museum or not.
I like the idea of a museum, because I like to see whats out there. I just don't want to see just a bunch of modern rookies.
PS, I would LOVE to see some of your nicer DK's in there...that is one hell of an impressive set, and MUCH better than most supers.
If someone doesn't want to get their feelings hurt, don't submit to a poll. I got over it :D

Thanks! It's been a tough endeavor, and it's slowed down a lot. Now, it's gotten to the point that people that do have a few I need (aka Burbank) know that I'm a buyer so they put jacked up prices.

Its kind of a given that a huge percentage of the FCB would vote for most any BC super, however almost none of the guys who have one have played for any significant amount of time to make their cards 'historical' or museum worthy. Forming committees doesn't really help anything because even those on committees will have their own biases...after all, who decides who gets to be on a committee?

In the end, I don't really need for someone or a group of someones to tell me what the most important cards in the hobby are... although its not your intention/I think you mean well by having this kind of thread, its pretty presumptuous to have such a thread when one thinks about it. However it really sounds like the best its going to get would be to have some kind of variation of the random card thread, this could be enjoyable if done right.

What is the presumption? That I like baseball cards?

The problem with the various show-off threads is that they aren't always present, they cover certain segments, and they are cluttered by quoted pictures and then a Smilie or a short obvious comment.

...a sticky thread with nothing but unreal baseball cards covering the entire history of the baseball card...

I'm sorry, what is the problem again?

Those would actually be some of the better threads I would like to see. I would love to see cards that people submit their cards for the museum. I think they would be very popular, and everyone would like to look.

I would vote this card in along with your ripken...so sweet!

Entitled to own a card? Show it off? Could you explain the issue?

Gracias! I actually really like the Biggio. #'d to 8 and was a real toughie. While I like the Ripken, I actually more enjoy like the Mark Grace (#'d to 4) and the Fred McGriff (#'d to 3). They are lowered #'d and are of lesser seen signers.

Entitlement to a voted on position. Much like a Hall of Fame on a message board. Just from my experiences on BMB with the HoF mess kinda' turned me off to the idea of putting people into a voted-on group.

I voted no to this card as well, although it is gorgeous and would definitely be welcomed in my collection. If a museum were to exist, I would think only a VERY small number of cards should be considered. A true best of the best.

It is the best of the best

Besides a venezulan rookie, a PSA 10 rookie, I haven't seen too many Nolan Ryan cards that I think are better than the 2 in this thread.
JMO, but my feelings won't be hurt if you don't agree :D

I agree and this thread has been great.

Also, once again, what is the problem with voting on and discussing awesome baseball cards on a baseball card message board?

My guess would be that most would want a 24 hour vote by the entire board on a certain card....lots of great baseball card minds on this board, I'd say we'd get it right 99% of the time.

I agree with that statement...no hard feelings here...no such thing as TOO MUCH discussion on baseball cards and what people like, even if there is controversy. ;)

I really don't have an explanation that I feel would really convince anyone. The BMB really really put a bad taste in my mouth about this sort of thing.

You picked a terrible HOF'er for this discussion...Nolan Ryan may have one of the largest autograph checklists of any retired player.

I guess i missed that..but then again, most BMB threads put a bad taste in my mouth (grin).
I understand that different people have different tastes...but that is what a museum is about anyway, isn't it?
I say just have a vote, and let the poll speak for itself.

And as big of a checklist as he has, I own just these 2 ;) They are the best of the best ;) ;)

Yes, they are nice Ryans.

Now -- the one I have may not be low numbered, but it is his first pack-issued autograph:

Ryan1895.jpg

1992 Classic. I pulled it myself out of a group of 4 packs that sat forgotten in a clothes drawer for nearly 13 years. Now, if you look at eBay, there may be some you see with different numbers or different pictures... this is the legit numbering and picture. I can't "prove" it, per se, but I can give you my word on it as I pulled this one myself.

there are 174 active Nolan Ryan autographs on eBay, 107 in completed items...can you imagine the varying opinions if you evaluated just the cream of the crop of these?

I think a comment thread should be made to pay our respects to the cards listed?

Gilmore chimmed in and it looks like an official thread monitored by the mods with votes and such isn't going to happen.

The FCB Museum Thread is up, as you know ;) (nice card BTW) and that seems to be what came out of all of this.

I'm going to re-scan my entire collection with my new scanner and try to keep that thread going. Hopefully everyone will embrace it and it will be easy to look at a ton of awesome cards any time someone wants.
