Yesterday was a pretty sizable mailday, but also had some solid items and not just volume. The highlight is probably the MVP Buyback Heritage edition of the Garvey. I also got the regular Real One too.

Garv Buy Back.jpgGarvey Heritage.jpg

This lot really belongs in the Monthly pick-ups, but since there was a Garvey /10, it goes here. Doerr, Winfield, Kaline and Guerrero autos are a nice bonus! 5 Au Lot Garvey 10.jpg

Pretty stoked about another Hackett plate, since this one is #40. I currently can't find any solid info on this issue, but the first XX(?) were artist proofs and then there were some that were just autographed by Garvey, probably a number having to do with his streak (a couple thousand?). The rest (of 10K) were unsigned). People have gotten plates signed over the years, so finding a super low number pretty much guarantees me this is a real AP plate. Singed by both Garvey (front) and artist (back). Garv Plate F.pngGarv Plate B 40.png

Never knew about these, but this is a 2012 Topps Mini autograph. I like the clean, simple design and now wonder if there are other Dodgers. Will have to do some digging. Billingsley 12 Mini.jpg

2023 Topps Finest got released 7/7, and I'm sure you know already that Garvey is in the 92 card auto set, with 10-15 color & SN # variations
I'm looking forward to watching this post / thread as you pick up the Garveys, and story of how you passed on the ones that are going for too much on the bay, but got one for less than the unlimited budget guys are paying. Maybe you already have some, and incoming from the bay.
the superfractor 1/1 of Garvey already pulled, and on the bay at $1,000 or BO
It seems that since Topps / Fanatics did a promo with Garvey earlier in the year, maybe he is going to be in all the products, giving you a lot to chase.
it's a nice, but also weird run, of 10 retired player autos of the 92, and nice that the autos are on card. only 7 teams represented by the retire guys
My guy [Green] is there, so I'm happy
It sems to me, Usually they get one of the uber icons [Griffey, Jeter, Nolan Ryan, Pujols, Mays, Frank Thomas, Koufax] but not this year.... and No Yankees.
  • Chipper Jones - Orioles
  • Dennis Eckersley - A's
  • David Wright - Mets
  • Edgar Martinez - Mariners
  • Jose Canseco - A's
  • Jim Palmer - Orioles
  • Larry Walker - Rockies
  • Steve Garvey - Dodgers
  • Shawn Green - Dodgers
  • Wade Boggs - Red Sox

I do have 1 incoming so far. I will wait on all of them other than this one that I will probably be able to share next week. I have missed enough in the last couple of years that getting everything no longer bothers me. That was a huge step to take, but I am better off for it rather than fighting other stupid people willing to overpay for stuff that is going to be worth 1/2 of what we pay shortly after. I figure I'll be able to get everything from basic to maybe /25 with a little effort. Getting lower numbers these days takes a lot of $ and/or effort or both. I just don't have it in me anymore.

Green has some competition and he had had a lot of low print run Archive cards. I picked up a few Green autos over the years, but have not won any in a long time. They just seem to go for more than I want to pay, since I have his auto several times over already. Always like unique Dodgers, but money is a limited commodity.

Looks like you’ll have a chance at new Kiki cards being made soon? Update maybe?

I saw that. I guess it depends. They seem to make the same guys over and over and ignore the rest. The Dodgers also tend to grab new players mid to late season, then dump them after the season ends too. Hopefully this isn't that.

This. I've probably said it a dozen times but why does Topps make 1,000 cards of Altuve (I love him, don't get me wrong) but no cards of guys that have been with the team for 2+ years. Make 994 cards of Altuve and give me six new Astros cards.

Gray, cool that he made the AS team, not so cool that it was with Wash. Gray.jpg

Saw Dodgers drafted him. This is probably foolish on my part, but thought I'd get in front just in case he heats up at some point. Kendall George. He'll probably never crack the bigs knowing my luck!

Going to send this to my facebook buddy, Ron Kittle, and hope to get it signed. its not all that easy to find and I am a little worried to lose it, but he seems to be a solid and generous signer. Who knew he was a Dodger in his early days? Like Alan Wiggins and Jeff Nelson to name a couple others with really early Dodger minor league cards, who never played for the team.

Took a little trip this week (Thursday-today) to Rancho Cucamonga for a Nephews wedding and happened to be about a mile from the Quakes stadium, the A Dodgers farm club. I didn't have a chance to see a game, but ran over to the stadium to see it and was hoping to land a card set. I was able to enter the stadium, as there was a game later that day, but team store was closed. I saw someone in the ticket window, so asked and she told me the store was essentially open right around game time. Since I was not going to make it (day of wedding), I was bummed, but then she offered to try to find someone to open up the store. A few minutes later, someone showed up and got me in.

When I said what I was looking for, she told me that they had not released their 2023 team set yet. In fact, it was going to be given away this coming Monday. Of course, I was not going to be able to stay and in fact just arrived home today. However, they hooked me up and let me buy a set early. it was hush hush, but since I am not showing the cards, I think it is OK to spill the beans. It was a special circumstance and I really appreciate them going out of their way to make my experience a great one. I also bought a 2022 set as well. Fun stop, great staff. I would like to go back again and see a game. It looks very fan friendly, saw several autograph signs (like they do player sit down signings frequently). Sucks to live out of State though, although it was 100+ the last couple days and I really don't need that kind of heat anymore.

Mail waiting for me from the last 3 days:

Snider /10. Snider 10.png

Garvey event program had never seen before.

LoDuca /50. Loduca 50.jpg

Grove, pretty sure I had him already, but may be a new add too Same with Yeiner GROVE.jpgYeiner.jpg

The last 3 are 1/1S. Crawford never made the team, but it was a cheap 1/1. Looks like he may be out of baseball as of the winter. Crawford1-1.jpg

Love this Donruss Team Heroes set. These were available at the Hawaii Trade Show hosted by Kit Young. Sutton is glossy version, Candy Man is regular, although not distinguished on the holder for either. I know this because I have both versions of the Garvey card.

The Astros used to be friendly like that. Great to the fans, tons of autograph events, it was awesome. But when Crane bought the team, he brought championships but there is almost no fan interaction at all.

I made a trip to the ballpark last weekend in Rancho Cucamonga, while down there for a wedding and landed the 2022 and 2023 team sets, which prompted me to buy some others from the other farm clubs. I won't scan any of them, but also got some in the mail today. Oklahoma sets from 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023. Tulsa sets from 2021 ans 2023. I have a couple more coming from Great Lakes too. I preferred the no shipping option for the Quakes sets, but I can't make special trips just to buy minor league card sets!

In the mail from ebay also today:

One of those 1/1s that is kind of a 1/99. The only difference across the cards is the line in silver is different on each card for a different record, feat or stat. Had not seen one for sale in a while, so went for it. I have maybe 1/3 of the set.Garvey 1-1.jpg
I managed to land a 6/50 Garvey. I don't seem to win these much anymore. This was a BO/BIN that i just went ahead and overpaid a bit to BIN. s-l1600-1.jpg
