I have grown to hatre paying a premium for these, but some of them are a little better than others. You don't see the older cards quite as often and we are stretching it a bit saying 1980 is old. For this issue, it is though.

A few interesting oddball Garvey's

I don't believe this package was "as sold" originally, but maybe it was. I know these buttons were sold in magazines as i have seen ads for them, but there is a 1979 Dodgers spring Training schedule inside as well. Maybe the Dodgers re-packaged them up that way and sold them at concessions in the spring? That is a 1981 Fleer image though. Did Fleer use an old image or is this just a repackage that suckered me? For about the price of the button alone, it was worth grabbing.Garvey Button.jpg

Strahler RC Auto. Great card that is mostly signed by hough, but whenever another player signs, I am more interested. I have it signed by each alone and possibly a few dual signed. I'll have to check, but I am pretty sure I do NOT have a triple signed.

These retail cards used to be impossible to find, so now I still grab them if I see them cheap. it's the unnumbered version vs the serial numbered hobby version

Photos can be an endless pursuit, but this lot had a few extra cool ones and was cheap enough. Allen, O'Brien and Alvarez were what caught my eye.

Happy to find this Werth way cheaper than the guy who is stuck on getting $40 for his. Archives Signature Series /23.

B&W unnumbered. Garvey BW.jpg

And a few newer-ish autos. Tired of fighting to overpay for Bowman cards of guys who MOST LIKELY won't be worth $10 in a year from now. There are exceptions...O. Cruz and Outman still holding on somewhat, but dropping fast. Patience in the autograph market almost always pays hefty dividends. If you can snag prospects immediately and get decent prices, that is usually a win/win as well, but no days it seems like every prospect is automatically big $ right out of the packs. Too many prospectors wishing, hoping and inflating prices. s-l1600.jpgs-l1600-2.jpgs-l1600-3.jpg

Garvey 6/75 jersey match and the seller knew it (and upped the opening price of the listing). I fell for it. Garvey 6-75.jpg

Wills. Wills.png

This are the Dodger additions from my log anticipated COMC shipment. Kind of a small contribution. This shipment was mostly football surprisingly. Varland I believe officially adds him to my Dodger have list, although he was scratched off the list a long time ago. The 1953 Bowman Furillo was to burn up store credit, but it was a decent card for pretty cheap.

And because I can never have enough photo pack photos, another one to add to the pile! It's almost a foot tall now!! Less excited about the PCs (nothing new) and some Police cards (have too many of these already), but it helps make the overall price even better.

While I just needed the signature and thanks to Leaf, I got one already, I am watching everyone pump big $ (for me, at least) into the new Topps Sheehan auto cards. Of course, I want one because it's authorized and has team names and logos showing, and it's a decent card in the 1989 design. Also frustrated that it seems everyone in the world is buying an Evan Phillips Topps auto (his first). Another one people will probably regret buying for $20+. Sick of "investors" and "what's it worth" guys skewing the market, because they are stupid and willing to pay more than what "it's worth".

Mark my words once more though, everyone will probably be regretting spending $25-50 or more on this guys auto. I'll hopefully be picking one up in 10 months for $10.

I did get another Leaf card, this one /4. Probably enough of these until I can get that legit card. Has a slight Crusade feel to it, but too sparkly. Crap signature, but that is what we get most of the time these days. Oh well.

Lot of 40 cards/photos that I won't bother showing. Mostly scrubby 90s-Present guys. Although, Walden never played and seems to be an elusive auto. I actually sent him some cards by finding him through his wife on facebook. Yet, I had to squash someone else's dream and still won this card I didn't need! I have a problem.

Rosario made for a short trip in LA and I already had several of his autos, but this was too cool to pass up, and cheap! Mini.

Joendry Vargas. Took a while to find a cheap one. He is enjoying a prospecting surge right now. j vARGAS.jpg

John Heritage. He is almost 81 now. That seems unreal to me, although he was already a storied vet when I started collecting cards.

A sign that I am nearing the end of my active collecting is the difficulty in landing items that I would have had no problem winning just 5 years back and at a much lesser price than most things now. It took me too long to land one of these and was afraid the initial batch would dry up. Freeman Dodger autos are much harder to get than Braves autos in general. This dual cost me more than I wanted to pay, but now I have it and a Freeman Dodger auto in one transaction. This is /35 and makes me want to dig out the Garvey/Hodges /4 I have. Wish they would have done a Garvey/W Parker and a Garvey/Karros as well.
Garv Freeman Mrm.jpg

Murray /15. He is like Frank Robinson, little hobby respect. When he dies, that is when we'll see a change in attitude.
Murray 15.jpg

Phillips is now a new Dodger, but the auto I had was a postcard from a previous team. This took too long to win as well. I finally won and the prices seemed to have continued to drop, as I expected. I just don't have enough patience sometimes, despite my gut telling me to wait it out.

I fell for it and bought another Leaf Sheehan. This is a 1/1 and was about $7.50, so why not. It's one of those pre-production proof 1/1s that comes with the business card cert that isn't tracked in their data base, but the sticker matches that of the one on the blank backed card.
sheehan 1-1.jpg

Another leaf 1/1, Samuel Munoz. Worth a small gamble, in case he does anything. It was relatively cheap for a 1/1, about $25. I don't have high hopes for it.

Gonsolin 2024 Topps in the new design I like.
Gonsolin.jpg

This one has an vaguely interesting story, to me at least. My wife and I took a Caribbean cruise in January. One of the stops was the US ****** islands, St. Thomas. There is rarely much time to really dig into any stop on a cruise, so we did the typical tourist thing. I always think about baseball when we travel somewhere, like San Juan earlier in the trip, but again, no time to really do anything.

We get home and a few weeks later, former Pirates (and briefly Dodgers) pitcher Al McBean had died. turns out he lived in St. thomas, not that I would have tracked him down when i was there. Still just a timely coincidence that we were there during his final days. This business card popped up a few days later and I ended up winning it. Neat item connecting him to the USVI.
