Horrible first half..... great second half.

4-4 in the early games. 7-1 (Georgetown) in the late games.... And Georgetown was my only big loss... the first 4 losses were not moving on but Georgetown was an Elite 8 team.

C'mon Utah State!

I have them winning today and beating Siena, who is almost a "push" with Purdue on the Vegas lines.

And it might be time to at least think about how much time Barnes has left in Austin. It might be one of those "change is needed" things. His teams have under-achieved for a little while, their FT% has gone down, if that's possible and the rest of the Big 12 has gotten better. He can recruit for sure, I just wonder if the 'Horns fans are getting a little tired of him...

And Cornell pulls off the upset we all thought they would.

I love it! Not only as an alumnus but also because I know how hard it is for Ivy League teams to compete due to league rules. As a matter of principle, none of the Ivy League teams offer athletic scholarships in any sport. That's in addition to the rigorous academic standards.

The men's hockey team is currently ranked #7 in the country. Can't wait to see what they do in the NCAA hockey tourney.

I always thought that's what made teams either division 1 or 2. Interesting.

What division a school is in seems to be entirely arbitrary. There are some REALLY big DIII schools, and some really small DI schools. I find the direction a school chooses to be quite interesting.

EDIT: I just looked up the rules on NCAA.org. According to their table every school that's at least DI has to give out $964,700 in scholarships (BCS schools have to pay out 4 mil). Even DII schools are required to give $250,000 in scholarships. However, it is also true that the Ivy League doesn't offer athletic scholarships. So I guess they must be grandfathered in or something.

Do those amounts have to be athletic scholarships or can they be scholarships given to athletes? While Ivy League universities don't give out merit scholarships for athletics or academics, they do give out need-based scholarships generously. Ivy League universities are among the most wealthy universities in the world. Cornell's endowment alone is $6 billion.

http://www.news.cornell.edu/stories/Nov ... Boost.html

Cornell's financial aid policy is that if your family makes below $60,000, your parents don't have to contribute anything to your education and you will have no educational loans. This is not a merit scholarship. This is guaranteed solely based on your family's income. If your family makes b/w $60,000 - $120,000 per year, you will be guaranteed to have to take out only $3000 in loans per year to attend one of the elite universities in the world.

So, while there are no scholarships specifically for athletes, Cornell's athletes (and students in general) are receiving a lot of grants/scholarships.

I think the Georgetown loss alone probably took a lot of brackets out of play.

Another slow start for 'Nova, especially Reynolds.

The freshman Wains has been their best player and seemed to add some fire to them, but they still are down 7 at the break...

Ugh.

Kansas down at the half. It's probably still a win, but they have shown alot of inconsistent play in these 1st 2 Rounds.
