Player collectors, how much have you spent total?

let see...$950 last week, $1200 the week before, add in 22 more years of buying McGwire cards, and the grand total? waaaaaay too much...

So I thought I had spent some cash until I did the math on your collection. (I'm going to assume $1K/week since your last two weeks average is $1075. That means $52,000/year or $1,144,000 for the past 22 years). I would love to sit down and look through your cards. However, it would only inspire me to spend more on my collection.

Since I am living by the new Tiger Rule (Definition: Don't ever write something you don't want your spouse to see.) I am simply going to say I love collecting baseball cards. Sometimes too much!

I don't think he spends that much every week. :lol: He just came across a lot of really great cards over the last two weeks. Including the Red Crusade and Topps Tek golds #/10 among other great McGwire cards. I'm lucky if I have half the collection he does and I know I've spent a lot.

I know how you feel! Up to now I've been spending $200-300 a year on cards which I've earned from summer jobs. I can't wait until I graduate and start practicing and have a real income.

I know how you feel! Up to now I've been spending $200-300 a year on cards which I've earned from summer jobs. I can't wait until I graduate and start practicing and have a real income.

My player collection (and Titans collection in FB) would be much better if I had spent less on wax (mainly retail!) and more on singles.

I'm glad to say I haven't bought a blaster box in around a month.

hehe, yeah I haven't spent 1000 a week for 22 years. I'd be castrated if I did that. Looks like I'm going to have one more big week like these last two then I'll be done for a little while.

As most have said, too much! But I have sold cards for a total of 10k this year.

Lance Johnson: No more than $10 (tons of trades for base and what not)
Reggie Sanders: $10 on various lots
Phillies PC: $50 on mostly ttm/ip cards, balls, and 8x10's
Trevor Cahill: $13.71 exactly.
Jeromy Burnitz (past PC): $30 on 2005 prime patches stuff and other GU stuff

Collecting on a budget can be fun. You may not get a lot of high end stuff, but I am content with lower end stuff because I collect what I like and not what Beckett/card junkies like.

While Bucky surely isn't the wallet-buster, ask him to post just rough estimates on his card totals for the other three players - then it won't be much of a shock :lol: .

You are probably the only collector I know with multiple player collections, each nearly complete. How long have you been at it? Six figures spread out over 20-30 years seems manageable but it's nevertheless a staggering amount. That is real dedication.

I waited until 5 seconds was left on an auction the other night after having mailed the seller..

UNLV has the weirdest collection of student athletes ever assembled. For every Grammama, there's an All-Star Actor, Reggie Theus.

Mike Rouse: maybe $100 tops.

Kerry Collins: not more than $100. Made a major trade on Beckett Buy / Sell / Trade in '99 and acquired (at the time) $1300 worth of cards from a collector in the Pittsburgh area.

Dustin Nippert: $55 tops. Haven't seen much on the 'Bay lately though.

Merkin Valdez: $50 or thereabouts. Made a massive trade on SCForum to acquire someones collection. Haven't picked up a ton since then

I dont feel that bad anymore looking at some of the numbers posted here. Im in the $15-$16k range on Markakis, and Im not even close to the 75% mark on all his cards. Fortunately I've been able to track rough amount spent, as all his purchases have been on one credit card specifically for him (high credit limit, lol). So considering I've been collecting him since 2003, that breaks down to $2.5-$3k yearly, which sounds about right. I'd easily be over $20k, but I've let alot of 1/1's pass me by this year due to a slowdown with my business.

Yes, $16,000 on Markakis. But there's only a handful of 1/1's pre 2007 that I don't own, so I'm still kinda proud of that.
