All the money in the world won't buy you championships, loyalty or morale.

jaypers could not be more right. the yankees have been dead for 8 years now, and this will change nothing.
I am a lifetime yankee fan, and i assure all of you, yankees arent winning anymore world championships.
they owned the 20th century, they will be owned in the 21st. end of story.

Blehhh... these massive money Yankee signings are getting REALLY freakin' old. Does this signing surprise ANYONE??? Texiera is no where NEAR as good as this contract and neither was Burnett for his... so I say bad signing by the Yanks. And don't get me wrong, Tex is a great player, just not THIS CONTRACT great. Hmmm, 20 wins from Moose for C.C. and a very offensively productive year from Giambi for Tex? I don't think this is as great an upgrade as people will make it out to be. Now if they still get Manny to replace Abreu on the other hand...

Dumb move.

He won't put people in the seats like Manny would, AND he is also going to be locked in for a LONG time. Hope you fans are happy dishing out that crazy money instead of a shorter investment.

Now I am a Yankees fan but I agree completely with you here. Do I think Tex is a good/great player? Yes. But I would have also rather had Manny for 2-3 years. Manny is just simply a force and could have been great for us for 2-3 years. And while I have all the respect for Tex, he is just not the same hitter Manny can be and the contract was just too long. I hate these excessive contracts that are being signed. I dont mind the yearly salaries, but 6-9 years for any player is simply too long. And for the record, I havnt been a fan of a single signing the Yankees have made this off-season.

it's still the largest by far

you still won't win

and i can't wait until next october when once again you are the most pathetic team in all of sports.

The rich just got richer. Tex and Boras both.

The Yanks did what they do best.

And all three parties remain blissfully ignorant of the truth.

All the money in the world won't buy you championships, loyalty or morale.

Bingo.

All you can do is smile.

Money cannot buy a championship. Baseball just doesn't work that way.

Good for the Yanks because if you've got it you might as well spend it! Their biggest problem I can see will be the manager. Torre had a way of keeping all these big egos in check and I just don't see Girardi being the guy to blend all these personalities together.

Also to the person who thought this was a Boras move I disagree. This now severely narrows the options for Manny. Basically it Anaheim or LA and they have the leverage at this point. Had Tex gone to Boston, Manny could have possibly had a longer and more lucrative contract with the Yanks.

Finally, would all of you been whining if the Sox or Nationals had signed him? I didn't think so.....It's the economics of the game and Tex was going to get his money one way or another. You all just don't like the Yanks.

Very well said sir!

Unbelievable. AJ Burnett was the 3rd ranked FA this year in terms of compensation. The only two ahead of him also sign in NY so all the Jays get from the Yanks is a damn 3rd rounder.

It's ridiculous that the compensatory picks for not signing their draftees in 2008 aren't in play.

And my God, do I ever hate the unbalanced schedule.

Feel your pain but Toronto isn't going anywhere either way. Even if they got the #1 overall pick as compensation five years of spot on drafting won't get them into the top of the division.

I'm glad they got a first basemen instead of Manny so Ajax can come up this summer :)

This moves Swisher to the OF and doesn't make a difference.
The rumors around Yankee Universe is that Swisher or Nady could be traded.

Anything like this rumor you reported? "Manny on the verge of signing with the Yanks for 3YR/$75M"

**** is the difference maker. If he does bad spankees finish in 3rd if he does average they finish in 2nd/3rd if he does good 1st/2nd(This is in their division).

C.C. cant/wont have a better season the Moose had last year.Burnett is another Andy and Joba will do what he did last year which wont make much of a difference in the overall record. If **** wins 16 plus the spankees win the division If he doesnt they are were they were last year.

what a ridiculous comparison. the yankees have the 4 highest contracts in all of mlb and have spent over $400m this offeason alone. you cant compare that to the nationals signing him or even the red sox.
