I know the outfield and 1B are full but no consideration for these guys?

Mantle Mantle

Stan Musial
http://www.baseball-reference.com/m/musiast01.shtml

Musial is on the list! Although Mantle is an obviously top tier, how can you argue against any already on the list :o

I read the from the list on page 3 not page 1 of the thread - hence missed Musial. I agree with the guys chosen ahead of Mantle - but just surprised he was not already mentioned.

I can't stand the guy but, Barry Bonds needs to be on this list.

I also think Bob Gibson should be ahead of Randy Johnson.

you know, the nostalgic side of me agrees. but if you look at the stats, Johnson is better by every measure. Wins, Ks, ERA+, WHIP, Win %.
Johnson might not be in the top 25, but if he's not, Gibson can't be.

I assumed he was great TTM. I sent to him e4 times but always but my home town in huge letters so he could see it. The autographs would come back super quick

Gagne is from my home town. I have met him a few times and he is a class act

[quote="Big Mac McGwire":3egkhydo]Manny Ramirez. One of the nastiest hitters of all time. And we must not forget one of if not the the greatest post season hitter of all time.

career season averages. .314 41 HR 133 RBI

I think there might be 2 or 3 other players that have better career average season stats.
he's in, but no where near the top.

look at his numbers. who is ahead of him??? im not taking fielding into account. Im talking soley on hitting.

In that case, I say my boy Greg Gagne makes the list. I'm not taking hitting or fielding into account, I'm talking solely on playing shortstop for Twins teams that have won the World Series. :P

Craig[/quote:3egkhydo][/quote:3egkhydo]

I absolutely worshiped him as a kid. I've met him a couple times and he's never been anything but nice, and he's a great TTM signer which is always a nice thing.

Yeah, agreed with Crowhop.

Johnson is better in almost every pitching category than Gibson.

Gibson was an extraordinary pitcher, dont get me wrong, but Randy was more dominating and has better stats.

...And I didnt even think of George Brett when I said Matt Williams....duh my bad lol. Williams came to mind because I got to watch him for so many years

any other obvious choices (misses)?

i am leaning toward adding Alex Rodriguez and Mickey Mantle and then moving on to the next tier.
what say you?

Now that it is top 25 of all time can you put Tris Speaker in??

http://www.baseball-reference.com/s/speaktr01.shtml
interesting...

what is your pantheon of CFs?
Cobb
Mays
DiMaggio
Speaker ?
Mantle ?
Griffey ?

i do think Speaker is RIGHT there, but not sure.
what do you think?
Tris Speaker is the greatest hitter behind Ty Cobb and IMO belongs on that list.

And c'mon man what's up with these non-HOFers? I thought this was a HOF list?! [While I do agree that some not yet HOF players belong on the all time player list, but being a HOF list they do not belong.....yet. ;) ]

Maine of course......
Josh Gibson needs to be on the list........while his contribution to the game is beyond words, I do not think Jackie Robinson is one of the top 25 players.

I am not sure that Maddux or Randy Johnson would be top 25. Maddux was amazing in his era but his post-season numbers were marginal.

If you are including active players Arod should be on.

TRis Speaker also is a top 25 without question.

So, IMO, take off Maddux, RJ and Jackie Robinson and add Josh Gibson and Speaker (and Arod if you are including non-HOFers).

That can be done.

Hank Greenberg, he seems like a good candidate.

to me, it seems odd to want Gibson in and Robinson out.

i agree that based on his play on the field, Robinson isn't in the top 25. but he is in the top 25 baseball players in the history of the game. he's the one a lot of folks would mention right behind Babe Ruth. i think that puts him up there.

for me, Gibson is so hard to quantify. there aren't any stats to go back and look at and honestly, i don't know much about the guy other than he was a ***** League Catcher that was reportedly a premier slugger of his day. there are a lot of baseball fans out there who probably have never even heard of the guy. that might not be fair to him, but legends are more than stats.
that being said, if others think he should be in, i'd put him in.

Eddie Collins, Nap Lajoie, and Tom Seaver.
hmm...Eddie Plank before Seaver for sure. agreed? i think Plank has got to be in.
Greenberg. if he had played for the Yankees, he'd be DiMaggio.
Eddie Collins is probably the best 3B ever.
Lajoie has got to be right at the cusp of making it, but there aren't many spots left.

...yeah, I am odd, I can take it.....

Going by on-field performance only, and from what I have read about Josh G., he was a man amongst boys.........I'm cool keeping Jackie on the squad.
