Re: Top Tier HOF...the Greatest of the Great

Mickey Cochrane could be in the list for Catcher

Career .320 hitter, struck out under 217 times in over 5000 ab's, 800+ rbi, and over 100 hr.

He didnt put up the numbers that Bench or Piazza did, but, I guarantee you in his day and age, his numbers were comparable to the numbers of the Bench's and Piazza's of today

Defensively, who can argue Brooks Robinson at third??

Not anybody I can think of!

Offensively, Mike Schmidt and Matt Williams are the two best

i would say there are probably 5-10 3B better than Matt Williams, at least.

Home Run Baker
Ron Santo
Greg Nettles
Eddie Matthews
Ken Boyer
Jimmy Collins
Darrell Evans
Dick Allen

those are just the ones off the top of my head, not included the ones already mentioned.

Yes, most definitely find a roster spot for Stan!!

I say Berra over Campanella due to longevity, which is certainly unfortunate due to Campy's car accident at age 35, Berra played until 40 though, obviously not at the high level of his youth. Both 3 time MVPS!!!!

Bench won a load of GG's, would Campy or Berra have won if awarded?

These are great conversations to have......!!! :D

Plus Williams was a known PED user...

anyone pick Ripken for SS? he's certainly "Top Tier"
i don't think so. but that might be just me.
i've always thought that if he didn't have the streak, he would be a HOF SS, but not the icon he is today. and i just can't get behind a consecutive games played streak like i could a consecutive season streak with a .320 avg or something like that. it is impressive, but not THAT impressive in my eyes.
i just can't think of him being one of the 25 greatest players to ever play baseball.

flame on.
