As a Red Sox fan the two players I wanted most in Boston were Matt Holliday and AJ Burnett.

Dont get me wrong though...

I will be thrilled with Tex if they sign him

Mets Closer Rumors
By Tim Dierkes [December 8 at 11:16am CST]
11:16am: Jon Heyman and Ken Davidoff/David Lennon agree that the Mets are meeting with Fuentes and Hoffman shortly. And Heyman believes the Mets' offer to K-Rod last night was for three years.

10:33am: Dan Graziano of the Newark Star-Ledger says the Mets and Blue Jays had discussions about B.J. Ryan. However, the Jays want Fernando Martinez and the Mets don't want to trade the young outfield prospect.

7:50am: According to David Lennon of Newsday, the Omar Minaya and other Mets officials dined at a steakhouse with Francisco Rodriguez for over four hours Sunday night. Lennon believes the early presence of Mets COO Jeff Wilpon implies that negotiations with K-Rod may have reached a critical stage.

SI.com's Jon Heyman wrote earlier yesterday evening that the Mets were expected to make an offer to Rodriguez at the meeting. Maybe three years with a vesting option.

The Mets also plan to meet with Brian Fuentes and Trevor Hoffman today, with Kerry Wood also on the radar. Ken Davidoff looks at the options and says, "It's gotta be K-Rod." The Rangers like Wood as well, by the way.

I actually think this would be an ok move for the Reds, losing Ryan Freel wouldn't be too much of a loss.

Roto World said:
The Reds are interested in a Ramon Hernandez-for-Ryan Freel deal, but they'd want to the Orioles to pick up a portion of Hernandez's salary, sources told
FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal. The Orioles would also get a prospect in the trade. Hernandez is due $8 million next year and either $8.5 million or a $1 million buyout in 2010. Freel will make $4 million in 2009, so the difference in salaries seems pretty much equivalent to the difference in talent in this case. Maybe it'd be fair to put the Orioles on the hook for the $1 million buyout in 2009, but no additional money should change hands.

Dodgers have signed Mark Loretta

Roto World said:
The Dodgers and Mark Loretta have come to terms on a one-year deal, according to agent Bob Garber. It's worth about $1.3 million. The Diamondbacks, Pirates and Phillies were also looking at the 38-year-old. Loretta picked a contender to join, though he shouldn't have a full-time job in Los Angeles. The plan will likely be for Blake DeWitt to start at second base versus righties, with Loretta filling in against lefties. Loretta can also start when Casey Blake needs a break. The Dodgers aren't getting a legitimate backup shortstop here, but Loretta is still a pretty handy guy to have around.

Looks like a deal is "in place" for Jake Peavy. If the Cubs do acquire him they have a pretty sick starting rotation.

Roto World said:
Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune writes that it would "be a stunner" if the Cubs don't acquire Jake Peavy by the end of this week's winter meetings.
A four-team deal could be in the works with Peavy heading to Chicago, Mark DeRosa to Philadelphia, and Felix Pie to Baltimore. The Padres would receive Garrett Olson, J.A. Happ and Sean Marshall. The Cubs would also like to unload Jason Marquis and some of his $9.5 million 2009 salary on either the Orioles or Phillies. It seems like an excellent deal for the Cubs, who would open the '09 season with a rotation of Peavy, Carlos Zambrano, Ryan Dempster, Rich Harden and Ted Lilly.

They ARE the Cubs though.

Even if they do get Jake, they'll find some way to blow it in October. They ALWAYS do.

Obviously this trade is hated on the Phillies board. With Moyer not signed, the Phillies only have 3/5 of a rotation. Happ is the 5th starter. If Happ is traded for a more expensive, lesser pitcher in Marquis... we're still without a 4th starter. Sure, we get a left fielder out of it, but we've made a playoff contender much stronger.

I'm hearing from MASN's Roch Kubatko that there is a VERY good chance the Orioles and Reds will swap Catcher Ramon Hernandez for Ryan Freel.
