A 1/1 from his playing career is always a big pickup for my Trent Dilfer collection - 2006 Topps Turkey Red Suede 1/1.
2004 Ultra Platinum Medallions have been really difficult for me to find, plus there are a lot of unnumbered replacement cards floating around that get in the way. Keith...
Just picked up my first 2023 Topps 1988 "Real One" parallel/88, Shea Langeliers...I thought these were supposed to be on a matte Heritage-syle stock (and many on eBay are advertised that way) but mine is exactly the same as a regular card from the 2023 Topps 1988 iinsert set, with the only...
New month, newer cards than I usually pick up:
Some more '88s from 2023 Topps. Eck is 29/50 and Canseco is 071/199.
A mishmash...Criswell was traded to the Rockies but I have a feeling he'll be an okay MLB starter some day. Then there's a McGwire Living Set card I missed, and a few recent...
Let's start off a new month:
The Zito is from a giveaway set at the 2003 Futures game...it doesn't seem to be catalogued by Beckett and I had never heard of nor seen one before. Thanks to @nevermore for the heads up!
Sammy Stewart gets my signed 1988 Topps set needs down to 19. He's not a...
Let's start the new year with a huge team set completion:
T206 Simon Nicholls, batting variation. That completes the 21-card Philadelphia Athletics team set. I picked up my first card from this set at the 2006 National (one of the three Chief Bender variations) so it took me about 16 and a...
First day of the new month:
\
2021 Prizm "Blue Ice" Dilfer auto 73/75. Just need one more to have all of the non-1/1 parallels. 2004 Pristine Refractor Barry Zito 05/49 - just need one more to finish up that team set. This one continues my lucky run of clean "uncirculated" cases.
Got a COMC shipment in today, I'll show more when I get a chance to sort through it but this is the biggest ticket item, a super sweet '90s card:
1998 Upper Deck Retro Quantum Leap Ben Grieve, 19/50. Popular set so I jumped on it immediately.
Also got a few in from eBay recently, nothing...
An anniversary gift from my wonderful wife, a 1997 Mirror Blue Jose Canseco! The 8th anniversary is the mirror blue anniversary. A couple of less interesting recent A's cards, and the elusive "2021" Topps Big League team set, released in April 2022. They are copyrighted 2021 on the back and...
2022 Topps Heritage Real One Autographs Orlando Cepeda. This is his first certified A's autograph so I had to get it. He played an entire THREE GAMES for the 1972 A's.
They're calling this one the "White Sparkle" version but it's not listed by Beckett so I'm not sure if that's the official...
New month:
The Dilfer Mosaic is the "Blue Fluorescent" version, 15/15. Drew Pomeranz is giving a real stink face on the 2015 Topps Snow Camo card, 02/99. And I got the 2020 Update Black 44/69 Luzardo for a whole $1.04 plus shipping, which should tell you how far his stock has fallen.
This one completes all of the A's 1995 Stadium Club Members Only parallels - base, Virtual Reality, and inserts. I also have 1996 complete but am missing some of the McGwire inserts for 1997 to finish the 3 year run.
My purchasing has really slowed down as I've been devoting money to Christmas gift buying and an upcoming expensive vacation. I did get these two in the last few days, though:
2010 Topps Veteran SP Rickey Henderson - this was the last of the A's "veteran SP" cards I needed from those few...
Tough to tell from the scan but the 2001 Pacific Mulder is the Hobby LTD version, 24/70. Khris Davis is a 2017 Gold Refractor 15/50. And Elvis Andrus is the Memorial Day Camo version, 05/25.
Seeing the great team autograph threads from Therion, dano7, and MrMopar has alwayds made me want to do something similar with the A's. With my 1988 Topps autograph set long-term project I've hesitated to spend even more on obscure A's signatures, but now that I'm getting down near 30 remaining...
New month, new thread.
A couple of Eric Chavez "1/1" cards out of 2007 Moments & Milestones. They have the Topps 1/1 hologram on the back, I get nostalgic for that. The Eck completes the 2015 Gypsy Queen mini team set. I still need one card to complete all of the GQ minis up through 2019...
May 1:
The '95 Sportflix Artist's Proof McGwire completes the team set. Got lucky with the Moreland Topps Now card and received the Blue parallel 01/49. The rest are some slightly less interesting 2021 pickups.
First pickups of the month:
The Jharel Cotton is 01/10, I try to go after the Tier One autograph parallels each year. The Canseco puts me one away from completing the A's in the 1998 Leaf Prized Collections set, also missing one each for the Donruss and Elite portions of the set...and plenty...
New month, new thread, new variety of A's cards for me. Finally got a few Sportlots shipments that were sent 10+ days ago, looks like the mail is slow again. Here's the "highlights."
The 2000 UD MVP Gold Signature Stairs puts me 2 away from the team set, which will be a nice one to complete...
Starting off the month with a couple of cheap ones:
The Lucroy is a color swap variation, Canseco is a Living Set card that I bought on eBay because I missed it when Topps was selling it direct.
Just a few small pickups during the first few days of the month:
The Tejada is /150, so one of the easier variations from this set that has about 12 trillion variations. Almost as many as a base 2020 Topps card!
Here are my two 1/1 versions:
The rarest and most joyous of all days, the day when I actually get a non-current year Trent Dilfer card I didn't have!
2015 Donruss Signature Series Gold 5/5, the last non-1/1 card I needed from 2015, and actually the last non-1/1 card I needed from the first three years Panini started...
I didn't see a September thread yet.
9/3:
I already had that Dilfer...I have the entire ridiculous 14-card rainbow, with 6 of them happening to be 01/xx. The one above was 01/20 so I grabbed it to replace my 16/20.
I have a long term project (as in, since 2005) to complete an autographed...
