Just a couple in the mail today

2023 Topps 1st Edition Rose Gold 5/10 Ryan Helsley - I'm slowly knocking off this rainbow. Just need the Light Blue Foil /5 and the Foilfractor 1/1 now.

Rube Marquard cut - This will end up in a custom card of some sort that I'll have slabbed in the next bulk sub. I love HOF autos and I've been trying to add an auto of everyone interviewed by Larry Ritter for his book "The Glory of their Times". I just realized I need a Larry Ritter auto too. That might be tougher than the players.

The Dilfer autograph came out a month ago but I just picked one up now because the first one I bought got lost in the mail. Hopefully when Fanatics takes over football they won't keep putting him in new sets. It was cool at first but over and over year after year with the same photos is annoying, yeesh he wasn't even very good. 2001 Ultra Platinum Medallion Eric Byrnes, SPed prospect subset 21/25...still a long ways from finishing that team set. Mark Mulder Recollection Collection autograph...didn't notice until I got it that it's a 1/1 JERSEY NUMBER !!!11 20/35. 2011 Topps Heritage Baseball Bucks Trevor Cahill...these are super hard to find and unless whoever pulled them put them in a card saver right away they surely got wrecked since they are made out of thin paper. I believe there is one A's Buck I'm still missing but I have the two I was heavily after, this and Brett Anderson.

2023 Topps Golden Mirror variation SSP Paul Blackburn...I remember when Series 1 came out people were saying commons from this set would be $150. My price is $10 shipped and this is the third A's card I've picked up with another on the way. Also pictured: two purpley autos from 2023 Topps Chrome.

Various goodies of disappointing players from the past couple of years, all /50. I thought the 2022 Chrome Platinum Gold Toile card would look cooler than it does, but the refractor effect is only present on the borders. I won't bother picking up any more of the Toiles unless I see one real cheap here or there.

2001 UD Game Jersey Sandy Koufax -- Perils of late night eBay browsing. Wanted the 1997 Paul O'Neill Donruss Signature (Green) from the seller, but added two Joe Black (1991 Archives TTM and 2001 GOTG Certified Auto) and this Koufax for combined shipping. Early Koufax jersey, love the 2001 GU design. Ironically still missing the O'Neill, probably the last "common" GU of his I need. Too lazy to picture the others.

1999 Upper Deck Victory Gold Unnumbered (1/1 replacement?) Tino Martinez -- my second Tino 1/1 from 1999. The other is UD Retro Platinum, a true 1/1 with simple gray design. This is the opposite, full on shine. Wanted an example of the design.

Today was a good day, Tater. Big and little ones arrived.

Patch variation 2006 UD.
Hot Ticket Die Cut. Un numbered but in my experience not common

Cramers Choice variants . 1 red and the Gold that are vault replacemnt copies, but one can argue these are more rare than the numbered ones. Clearly, most people feel the numbered ones are more desirable.

One of the cooler early inserts, those Cramer's Choice cards. Great color variations too.

Picked up 2 more special Mays Donruss cards. If anyone else has or comes across any at a low price, I am a buyer. It appears these were made for Mays to either give out at his leisure or maybe for events where he attended. One mentions Halloween, which is how I first heard about there from a Beckett article. The card was supposedly only available to those who trick or treated at Mays home in SF. Still like this has a tendency to get back doored though, but still very unique. If we believe the backs, Mays personally gave these cards to the recipient.

I got a good chunk of the 2013 Pristine Helsley Rainbow in today. Here's the dilemma. I like displaying my rainbows in binders so you can see all the colors together in contrast to each other. Do I take the Encased Pristine Refractors out of the cases and binder them? Given that it looks like Topps used "used" one touches for this product I think I will. This things are all kinds of beat up and they're from several different sellers so I know it wasn't just bad handling.

I have always left the factory cases intact, but each person has to do what works best for them. If the cases were actually used, that is crappy. It always bothered me to buy secondary and have the case be damaged or missing, but I guess if I bought it, I was OK with it at some level still.

Obviously the only correct answer is you have to buy two copies of each encased card - one to take out and display in the binder, and one to keep in its natural encased state.

The 1998 Rookie Diamond Kings Grieve is the Canvas version, which were the first 500 cards of the 10,000 print run. It took me a while to find one for a fair price. Still a ways to go for both Pacific parallel team sets. 2005 Reflections Emerald Rich Harden 11/25 gets me to 2 left for that team set. The Holliday completes the regular 2009 Bowman Chrome Gold Refractor set, but I still need one Prospect and one Prospect Auto to really complete it.

090923-2.jpg
Some neat recent-ish autographs. The Neuse Gold parallel is 23/50.

Catching up on some 2023 Topps Chrome stuff, they put ten A's in the Rookie Auto set.

090923-4.jpg
2023 Topps Silver Pack Chrome Gold Langeliers 35/50, 2023 Topps Golden Mirror SSP Sam Moll, 2016 Bowman Chrome Draft Gold Refractor Logan Shore, and a team set completer: 2020 Select Tri-Color Sean Murphy.

Took a road trip Saturday looking at some small parcels of land to get further out in the sticks when I retire. One of the neighboring towns had a Walmart. Decided to stop in to see if they had any TC blasters. They had 20-25. I grabbed four. I have heard the blasters were loaded. Three of my favorite hits:
Julio Rodriguez Pink Refractor

Caleb Kilian Green Refractor Auto 21/99

Shohei Ohtani SP Image Variation 25/25, 1:16,938 packs!!!

I m not a fan of modern unlicensed. I rarely make exceptions. Last one was the Leaf Mariano/Clemens Dual Auto for under 100 bucks because it made too much sense and I needed a Mo auto. I ll do Leaf but won't do Panini.

That said, this Magenta Leaf plate 1/1 was 20 bucks, and it makes 2 of the 4 along with the black. I need cyan and yellow for the run. Not a top of list item, but cool pickup and I ll watch for the others now. It's cool as it has tons of ink streaking still on it, they didn't really clean it.

Taking a chance on this, but in a way, I am not. It was cheap enough that I liked the price for the tape book itself. It comes with a Global COA, which apparently isn't worth much. I had never come across this before and it's the kind of thing I like, but after I offered on it, I looked and there was another one for sale, sealed, for less. I bought that too! Mays Tape Au.jpg
The 61 Heritage or original never get old, signed. Another year of Archives Signature means more of these are possible. Hudson is my first of the new set. Hudson 61.jpg

Another Donruss Recollections. pERRY 81d.jpg
This card has some weird foil effects. Thought it might have been a bad scan. No big deal, it was cheap. mCdANIEL rAIDERS.jpg
