Just one today that isn't Dodger-centric. So much about this card though that I love.

1) A star player making a late career (final) appearance on a favorite team.
2) He would go on to be a HOFer
3) All-Pro designation (I loved seeing this as a kid)
4) This was a sweet design back when they were new in 1985. Reminder of the 71 Topps baseball design.
5) Autographed. Had to have this one eventually and it has eluded me for a while.

Random bankruptcy/fake Legacy pickup at an LCS super cheap. Kind of neat in hand because the background doesn't have topcoat, so it's like a high gloss accent business card. Interesting variant in a player collection.

Here is that sealed Mays tape. Mays tape.jpg

This is another item that took me back to the early days of my collecting bug. I remember seeing this book in the TCMA catalogs, thinking how cool that photo of a pile of cards was. I could never make out who was pictured, but it was the late 70s, so it was all older stuff at the time. I have been able to find and buy the book with a few different covers, but never this one. Its like the Flipping, Trading and Bubblegum Book for me, except I never owned this one as a kid and have no idea why I never tried to buy a copy!? now that i can see it up close, its loaded with 50s cards mostly. They even slipped in a few football cards. This copy was cheap, but it looks like a dog chewed on the bottom left corner. If I find another nicer copy later, I may upgrade.Book of BB CVards.jpg

Took a road trip Saturday looking at some small parcels of land to get further out in the sticks when I retire. One of the neighboring towns had a Walmart. Decided to stop in to see if they had any TC blasters. They had 20-25. I grabbed four. I have heard the blasters were loaded. Three of my favorite hits:
Julio Rodriguez Pink Refractor

The Dilfer autograph came out a month ago but I just picked one up now because the first one I bought got lost in the mail. Hopefully when Fanatics takes over football they won't keep putting him in new sets. It was cool at first but over and over year after year with the same photos is annoying, yeesh he wasn't even very good. 2001 Ultra Platinum Medallion Eric Byrnes, SPed prospect subset 21/25...still a long ways from finishing that team set. Mark Mulder Recollection Collection autograph...didn't notice until I got it that it's a 1/1 JERSEY NUMBER !!!11 20/35. 2011 Topps Heritage Baseball Bucks Trevor Cahill...these are super hard to find and unless whoever pulled them put them in a card saver right away they surely got wrecked since they are made out of thin paper. I believe there is one A's Buck I'm still missing but I have the two I was heavily after, this and Brett Anderson.

2023 Topps Golden Mirror variation SSP Paul Blackburn...I remember when Series 1 came out people were saying commons from this set would be $150. My price is $10 shipped and this is the third A's card I've picked up with another on the way. Also pictured: two purpley autos from 2023 Topps Chrome.

Various goodies of disappointing players from the past couple of years, all /50. I thought the 2022 Chrome Platinum Gold Toile card would look cooler than it does, but the refractor effect is only present on the borders. I won't bother picking up any more of the Toiles unless I see one real cheap here or there.
I picked up a gold toile too thinking the background is shiny. Pretty bummed when I got it in hand.

I was never a fan of the real 59 Topps, but the Heritage seem to have much deeper color to them and look great signed, plus have always liked retro sets with current player selection. s-l1600.jpg

Going to share this here, instead of Dodger thread, because the Garvey is the worst of the 4! HOT Au lot

I m sure there's a guru somewhere who disagrees, but if there are only 6 or 7 buttons on a jersey, there are only 6 or 7 button holes on that jersey too. Thus, an equally rare and cool piece as a button, and doesn't require a super ultra death thick holder haha!

Really shocked I walked away with this so cheap compared to what crazy prices people are paying lately for relic stuff. Also wonder how many "holes" I ve missed or slept on cuz I wasn't paying attention through the 20 plus years of relic cards......

1999 Stadium Club Yellow Printing Plate Ricky Ledee -- Couldn't pass up a late 90s printing plate.

2001 UD Game Ball Mariano Rivera -- 1:288 odds from Series 2 with stitching. Another card from this set after the Koufax last week.

2000 E-X Game Essentials Mariano Rivera -- A 20th Anniversary Buyback. I started "super" collecting Mariano Rivera back in August 2003 when I got back into collecting after a trip to Cooperstown. I had about 800 different cards by 2006, sold my modest collection then of inserts, parallels and GU and decided to focus just on his autographs. Anyway, stumbled on this card recently on eBay It was my very first GU card pick up in 2003. I had sold my original card, but couldn't pass up a patch version especially with the interlocking NY logo. Such a nostalgic card for me. It has to be one of his earliest patch cards.

Cool find. That 1998 Legacy has at least 5 non-official variations by my count. I don't know what's so hard to produce about that card, but Fleer just couldn't quite figure it out in the moment.
